The clear sky today gave me a lovely sunset, with the sun disappearing just north of midway between the two big maples on the western edge of my property. These are the only trees or shrubs on that boundary.
The sunset exactly bisects them on the Winter Solstice.
The trees were planted after the house was built, and the house foundation also aligns exactly on the Solstices, Midsummer Sunrise through the north east window, Midwinter Sunset through the south west window.
Readers will perhaps know that this is the primary alignment of Stonehenge.

The house was established by a Catholic Irish farmer, as I know from speaking to his grandson.
However, as Bernard of Clairvaux said of the Irish Catholics in 1149

Never before had he known the like, in whatever depth of barbarism; never had he found men so shameless in regard of morals, so dead in regard to rites, so stubborn in regard of discipline, so unclean in regard of life. They were Christians in name, in fact pagans.
