ELO's Livin' Thing has always held some meaning for me. I was in USAF pilot training in Lubbock, Texas in 1976 when Livin' Thing was current. A fellow student pilot with a pregnant wife crashed and died on his first T-38 night solo at the time. I've always associated that song with him and the wife and child he left behind.

Sandi Thom was born and grew up in these parts, north-east Scotland, - her father was a helicopter pilot on the North Sea - and in her early youth she used to play in a pub in Gourdon just a stone's throw from where I live.
