Squadron Leader John M’Kenzie-Hall - RIP

#1 Post by Alisoncc » Fri Dec 21, 2018 6:42 am

I am sure there are some who inhabit these halls who would have known Squadron Leader John M’Kenzie-Hall.
Squadron Leader John M’Kenzie-Hall, who has died aged 95, flew helicopters on operations in Malaya and during the Suez crisis before forming the helicopter section of the Queen’s Flight.

In 1957 the Captain of the Queen’s Flight, Air Vice-Marshal Sir Edward Fielden, asked M’Kenzie-Hall to set up and run a helicopter section, which was to completely change the pattern of travel for the Royal family, although early helicopters were regarded in certain quarters as slightly suspect where safety was concerned.
Still are. :-o
