There is also the possibility that she is not a frothing at the mouth anti-royalist?

I get the impression, although not yet from practical experience, that as people get older they have an incident which makes them realise that they should no longer be driving. The lucky ones have a near miss, those less fortunate hit something and the really unlucky are no longer in a position to need more than the one final drive with a chauffeur.

Mentioned before, HRH PP was an excellent pilot. He decided to give up flying when his personal captain (Sqn Ldr Geoffrey Williams) retired. He thought it was time and it was a good break point. HRH PC gave up flying when he pranged, Perhaps HRH PP is taking a leaf out of his son's book.

That was certainly the case with his horse&carriage driving.

He had an incident which told him that it was time to quit.

It is great pity, and to the detriment of at least one innocent member of the public, that it took physical injury to a victim of his pig-headedness for his cousin/wifey to tell him to quit being Mr Toad.

How many of these people were wearing a seat-belt?

Two of 'em were expendable, but there would have been some quite serious repercussions if either of the others had gone the way of the "queen of hearts".

Who needs seat belts when the protection squad will insert themselves between the non-expendables and danger?

The PPO who was supposed to be looking after Q of H was the only occupant of the car who wore a seatbelt and was the only one who survived.

I met him some years later, when he was running a shoe shop in Oswestry.

Back to the pub at Scampton: do they have a copy of the Geneva Conventions on the wall? Y'know, Article 56 and all that.

I'm glad you mentioned Article 56. On the moors above Saddleworth stands a pub called "The Church". The establishment next door may still be used for acts of worship. I know where I'll be heading when it all kicks off, even if I do prefer the "Cross Keys".
