Prince and Police
Prince and Police
- nothing personal, just wondering - could a prince (or queen, for that matter) be arrested for some serious traffic incident?

Re: Prince and Police
Apparently the Queen is immune from prosecution. Other members of her family, including the DoE, are not.
Re: Prince and Police
No necessity to wear seatbelts when driving on private property. No story there. Two days later, pictures in the Daily Mail and the Sun appeared to show the duke, 97, driving alone on the Sandringham estate in a replacement Freelander, without a seatbelt.

Re: Prince and Police
Similarly, passenger in other car involved in the accident with the Duke has said that no-one from the royal family has contacted them.
Why would they? If one is involved in an accident making direct contact with the other party, whoever they are and whoever you are, is very unusual. Why would 'The Family' be any different?
However, according to the witness who assisted the DoE from his overturned vehicle, the Duke's major concern was the passengers in the other vehicle. That is what he said on our local TV news here in the wilds of Norfolk.
(and, yes, I know 'eye witnesses' are often mistaken and news reports are sometimes less than entirely accurate)

Is Anglia TV with the Swede in a tin suite still the ITV franchise?Smeagol wrote: ↑Sun Jan 20, 2019 9:48 amSimilarly, passenger in other car involved in the accident with the Duke has said that no-one from the royal family has contacted them.

I have recollections of their opening night, when the Knight in Shining Armour appeared on the NAAFI TV, someone called out; 'A Swede in a Tin Suite!'
The name stuck.

In the time-honoured tradition of all aviation fora, should we not dissect and analyse the 'accident?
The apparent excuse offered by Phil was that 'the sun dazzled him' as he pulled out. Accident 1500 UK time. This image shows a pull-out heading about 240 and looking about 170 to check he is clear?
What say the jury?
Hang on, there's someone at the....

Re: Prince and Police
If the sun dazzled him he shouldn't have pulled out.
Had this been a 97 year old fish monger the press would be howling for a ban on over 80s or some such.

Re: Prince and Police
All prosecutions in England are, I believe, in the name of the Queen. Tricky.
Re: Prince and Police
yeah, even though I can really sympathise, remembering well how my late father was depressed due to the ban on driving. Even this summer, when he was dying already. it's probably like you've lost 'a function', like walking?

Cape, it's a bit like the old Civil Service Code, i.e. the employment handbook. Each page had in the footer TINALEA. No the typist who drafted it, but This Is Not A Legally Enforceable Agreement. As it's HM's Civil Service, you couldn't take action based on The Code, as any case would be HM v HM.
Re: Prince and Police
I don't understand why a Royal Household secretary can't write to the other parties, and without in any way admitting liability say something along the lines of :passenger in other car involved in the accident with the Duke has said that no-one from the royal family has contacted them.
"HRH Prince Philip has asked me to write to you to convey his wishes to you for a speedy recovery from any injury and distress you may have incurred in last week's collision."
It implies no liability, would get the women to STFU, and would be a decent gesture. Unless there is a legal reason not to have any contact, it's what I would be inclined to do.

Another little known fact, HMQ can put her luggage on to an aircraft without it having any security checks, rest of the Firm treated as ordinary SLF
When all else fails, read the instructions.

I wonder if the Ozmates still have the Royal Turd on a plaque stashed away somewhere.

Frau Saxe-Coburg-Gotha's next of kin are not completely exempt from RTA prosecutions. Her daughter was fined for speeding.

Wasn't that the Chess Champion plaque on the Royal Yacht Britannia?

I understood it to be a Petty Officer on the Britannia that 'rescued' it and somehow preserved it.

I recall PC's visit to 43 Sqn Leuchars in the 70's and much digging around the ground outside the toilet wall thereafter.
