Salted dried cod boiled with potatoes in their skins, served with butter and raw onions. Canadian version of lutefisk. ;)

Portuguese do a similar thing, Mr Boat. Salt dried cod with potatoes, onions and tomatoes, couple of bay leaves and a pinch of mixed herbs then cooked till the potatoes are soft. Splash of white wine and let it simmer for another five minutes then serve. Bowl of that for breakfast sets one up for the day.

Whatever tempts at the (surprisingly nice) local Italian in an unlovely part of GVA. There will be 8 of us, including 4 children, so it will not be a peaceful occasion. I've a real weakness for their gnocchi with gorgonzola, but it's about 29C outside, so maybe not tonight.

Octopussy, you say 29° outside - please don't tell me you have a/c inside?! Same temp here at the moment but probably slightly cooler inside due to the thatch.

Pasta with tomato sauce, basilic and red hot peppers for me. The last two grown at a pot watered by me. Note to self: next time don't go light on red peppers.

LG no. Only things I have seen eating hippo are lions and crocs. Interesting actually the crocs back off when the lions appear.

Tuna pasta for lunch, with a glass of red, of course.

Decided to let the wallet take the strain - so Mrs C16 and I are recently back from a meal at The Ship Inn at Stonehaven harbour. Excellent fare - mine was Scallops with Chorizo followed by Venison Steak with Spiced Cherries and then a selection of Italian ice cream, topped off by a large new moon rising over the harbour - sadly it was low tide but very impressive all the same.

Extreme extravagance today, Sunday lunch is a Fray Bentos full size Steak and Kidney pie (from Poundland) with exquisa pots, runner beans and carrots. Delicious! Followed by a large banana.
