50kms ?

Try a 600km round trip for a Gin (and beer) resupply ! :D
(Darwin to somewhere out bush)

Try a ship every six weeks which would not stop if the weather was rough!
Been in data comm since we formed the bits individually with a Morse key.

After so many years SWMBO still hasn't learnt that you can't make a drinkable pot of tea with boiled water, it has to be boiling. Bloody foreigners, same as the ones who when you ask for tea bring you a pot of lukewarm water and a teabag on a saucer.

I've had people here ask why I'm taking the hot water fro the water dispenser to fill the kettle. I point out that (a) the water is not hot enough for proper tea as dispensed, and (b) because electric kettles in the US are a joke (but better than not having one), it saves 5-10 minutes by using the pre-heated water as a starting point.

Working over 14000ft does not allow a good cuppa. Water boils at about 85C.

It took me a while to work out why even the best tea in Rhodesia (Tanganda) never tasted as good in Salisbury (1500 m asl) as it did in CPT.

Had a smoked haddock mornay yestereve when SWMBO was out dining with "the ladies". Tonight and tomorrow will depend on what looks appetising at the Sons of Morris, and Monday lunch with friends will be at Kushi's Indian emporium (Hello, WingsFolded).

One of the two shops on our island has begun selling small packs of beef dripping. Yesterday I indulged myself and had toast & dripping with salt - childhood memories came flooding back as soon as I bit into the toast. Very similar to the memories evoked when the late Mrs R found an old-style black pudding, boiled it and served it with English mustard and brown bread & butter

Sorry to hear that WF. Apparently it has changed hands (but not menu). I'll report back.

Just one more stinkin' lousy kilo to go.

Channel Islands friends who now live in France but have been house-sitting in southern Spain are coming to stay on their drive back north. Mrs OFSO has made a ginormous pot of Dhanask Curry (chicken and lentils) with samosas and her own nanbread for supper, plus some yummy deserts I don't even like to ask about. No doubt the Mephistoclian Muffalo will force his way into the dining room and as a NR assert his rights to the left-overs.

Good old mince & tatties for tea. Cavolo Nero and carrots on the side. Extra CN for me as MrsP's not too keen.

Looking forward to next week's haggis &c.
