Mmmmm, kippers. I love them, but MrsP objects to the smell hanging around the house. I have been known to put them in a jug outdoors, pour boiling water over them, and heat them up that way. Frying's best, though. I'm happy to eat pickled herring, or herring fried in oatmeal as well.

Steak & kidney pie, nothing special.

But what is, I've had a beer for my aperitif, we are having a bottle of red with it, and a little Cointreau as a digestive.

I'VE BEEN OUT BOOOZE BUYING :-bd :YMPARTY: :-bd :YMPARTY:

Caught on Lithgae Loch on a May fly on the second cast. 2.8kg before cleaning.

Will cook in well-wetted newspaper, and with cavity and skin well smeared with brandy butter. 20 mins at Regulo 8.

Nice catch, UP. That's a biggun.

We had cow's bum with JRs, onion, mushrooms and asparagus. Tasty. SWMBO had Gavi (with steak?) and I finished the bottle of Piccini italian red.

Pantelleria wine, to be followed by Grappa.

A grape, not grain, evening.

The krauts built the airfield, so as to whack the Brit convoys on the way to/from Malta. Flat land is scarce on the island, so the runway is on one hilltop and the tower is on another. Aircraft don't take-off in the normal way, They just taxy very fast and let the land fall away from them. ;)))

The grapes are of a very unusual variety. They are salt-tolerant and need to be as fresh water is very scarce on an island which has no rivers or lakes and has very porous rock so rainwater seeps away very quickly.

The Allies bombed the crap out of the town. After the war they just bulldozed the rubble that had been the town into the harbour, making it practically useless for anything other than small craft. It is full of sea-cucumbers, cazzo di mare, as the wopdebops call them.

As Michael Caine might say in an adenoidal way "Not a lot of people know that".

Wasn't it the 1st piece of Axis territory to be occupied by the Allies in WWII?

Currently overrun by asylum seekers.

UP, the head waiter in our holiday hotel spends the winter at his parents' house in Sardinia. They have a vineyard, and he now makes his own grappa when he's over. It's wonderful. He gave us a bottle a couple of years ago, and I've only recently finished it. Caffe corretto con grappa, per favore.

We're sharing a Chinese-spiced rack of pork ribs with plum sauce and a crackling crumb topping. Haven't decided on the sides yet.

Last night was lamb chops with ratatouille. Tonight it's pot roast cow's bum with whatever veggies I can find in the fridge, plus some JR spuds.
