Wonderful cut of beef. The sons of morris sometimes have them rolled in salt & pepper and, if you like rare beef, they cook in about 45 minutes.

Seared for 10 mins, then roasted at a high heat for 30 more

Rested under foil for 30 more

Beautifully tender, loads of juice for gravy, seasoned with flaked sea salt and black pepper - could possibly have benefitted from a few chilli flakes and smoked paprika

Will definitely repeat

Opsboi, when we could still have big family Christmas dinners (2019), I roasted 3 picanha joints. easy peasy. The only difficulty was resolving arguments about who'd had the most yorkshire puds.

We're having a week in a holiday cottage but despite the unfamiliar kitchen managed to rustle up from scratch a dozen Yorkshires for the 4 of us

Tidy result

I still use the yorkshire pud recipe from a book by Graham Kerr "The Galloping Gourmet" which I bought Dunnunda in the '80s. He's since moved to the US and gone all health conscious, but I got in touch with him and he kindly sent me a copy of his current book. His church is associated with community support, so I sent a donation to say thank you.

We had a roast chook yesterday, and I made stock with the bones. Lunch is leek and potato soup, and tea will be chicken curry.

Trying out a new recipe today; brown rice with broccoli in a cheese sauce baked in the oven. If it is cr@p then the birds and squirrels will benefit. :D

Out for a meal tonight at a pretty decent seafood restaurant. I'm going for the seafood gnocchi and a couple of pints of Birra Moretti. SWMBO has yet to decide.

My favourite Chinese buffet place in Edinburgh is still closed due to the Covid regs. The problem is that the serving ladles and tongs etc would be handled by multiple people and become a vector for spread of the virus.

I believe that cruise ships get around the problem by putting the various dishes in a buffet into single portion sized bowls. Must be hellishly manpower-intensive to do that and to do the washing up. I also wonder how they keep small portions warm. Easy enough to do with large amounts of food in a bain Marie, but small bodies of food lose their heat very rapidly.

With the recent very steep rise of the infection rate in Scotland, I can't see the regs being relaxed any time soon. Such a pity as that place is well worth visiting and I have been looking forward to having lunch there for half a year or more.

Blah! Chinese buffets! UP, you need authentic cooked to order food!...Chinese buffet is dreadful!

https://www.google.com/search?q=old+tow ... 8s0YY7lFVM

$11.80 Lunch menu, cooked to order.....BYO....and walking distance from home...wine to be enjoyed,... no driving or taxis...not a pretty place but the food is fabulous....which makes it very authentic... :)

Alternatively.....

I should add UP, with a relative close proximity to Asia, we are blessed with a level of 'Asian' cuisines that I have never experienced before in Europe or the fair isles..

We ended up having a lovely bbq supper by the pond. First one this year on the warmest evening of the year so far. As usual, I cooked vastly too much food for only four people to eat, so the dogs had a massive feast and will have lotsa lovely eats tomorrow too.

Yes, I recognise that most Brit Chinky restaurants are not a patch on the Singapore food courts, but Edinburgh's China Red really is bloody good. I highly recommend it, when it eventually re-opens. It's in Grindlay Street, opposite the Lyceum, just behind the Usher Hall. I greatly hope that the place doesn't go bust with such a long closure.

I've always found the Chinese restaurants in France to be rather good.

They are of course Vietnamese.

Whereas the Chinese restaurants in Odense Denmark were glorified pølse bars, with food adjusted for Danish tastes.
