Sense prevails George remains at Williams, not much left for Perez now.

Only Mercedes can win the driver championship now (as well as manufacturers').

Any excitement in the race which I eschewed to watch a Columbo rerun? =))

Little excitement in the racing but much in the unexpected mechanical failures and a very-short-lived virtual safety car period perfect for Hamilton. Lady Luck was with Mercedes today, esp. Bottas.

To which you can add superb tactics taking full advantage of the spills etc.

Wonder what happened to Bottas with the bottom. He thought he hit something.

What is amazing is how stable those cars are when spinning. Also how substantial body parts can be swoped out. I wonder if our road vehicles will ever become as instantly repairable.

I know a front wing on my Merc was replaced and simply bolted on. The painting took the time but could have been a same day job.

Bottas hit debris at Tosa which had been left by a collision between Sebastian Vettel’s Ferrari and Kevin Magnussen’s Haas on the track on corner 7 on lap two.
Bottas said he couldn't avoid the debris and chose to straddle it rather than damage the tyres.

And here we have a Mercedes Mech holding the offending debris.

I watched the highlights of the race last night and thoroughly enjoyed the race. Both Bottas and Hamilton had their fair share of luck coupled to ingenious strategy on part of the ever slick Mercedes team. I felt for Verstappen who would almost certainly have come second if his tyre hadn't let go.

I suspect Hamilton might decide to hang up his gloves very soon as he has nothing to prove to anybody anymore. He is the class of the field and Mercedes deserve their 7th constructors title on the trot.

Just a reminder that every F1 race is shown live on free-to-air RTL and you can always mute the German sound and turn Radio 5 on for an English commentary. (As did we).

Horribly slippery when damp, currently even worse in pouring rain.

Track very recently resurfaced, and even in the dry yesterday there was precious little grip on slick tyres.
The wet is merely aggravating the underlying lack of grip and zero visibility.

Do the rules regarding tyres for fastest lap in Q2 apply for wet qualifying if the subsequent race is also wet?

Yes, should be an interesting race tomorrow. More rain forecast, I believe.
