Will Bottas get a penalty for causing the chaos?
It would be rather nice if neither Hamilton nor Verstappen come anywhere near the podium today.

It is not beyond Hamilton to win this one while the Kaaskop dithers around at the back.

Bottas gets 5 second penalty.

See below for correction - 5 place grid penalty.

I thought 5 seconds was inadequate for the mayhem caused.

Ocon wins... good to see another face at the front.

I thought the commentator said he got a 5-place penalty on the grid for the next race.

Mea culpa - it is 5 place grid penalty.

When you consider that Toto was 50/50 between Bottas and Russell, Valtteri could have decided his own fate for next year.

Sub contracting takes over.... Mercedes obviously subcontracted their strategy to Red Bull....

Vettel at risk of DQ as the required fuel sample not obtainable.
Rules say 1lt at any time they only got 300ml post race scrutineering.

Vettel DQ failing to provide a sample.
So all move up one in the general classification, good news for Hamilton but great news for Williams.
One expects Aston Martin to appeal.

I did wonder if anyone every runs out of fuel.

As for Bottas, as they say in the trade, a kills a kill. Taking Verstappen out a second time almost looks like a plan.

In the pre-race interview on CH 4, Verstappen was fairly non committal; Hamilton was masked, did anyone notice the glint in his eyes 😊

As does the DQ of Vettel. Anything to give Mercedes/Hamilton more points to ensure they beat Red Bull.

Another point needs considering....was Hamilton too ill or suffering disabilitating symptoms, to make his continuation to the end of the race dangerous to the other drivers?
Did he admit to being so affected in post race comments to TV and other media?

It has been suggested that he is suffering from 'long Covid'.

In the days when there was a fixed quantity of fuel for the whole race then yes, cars did occasionally run out, but back then there probably wasn't a requirement to dispense a litre on demand because it was all provided from a common source under supervision.

If the rules are clear that there is expectation, especially for those in the points, that a fuel sample is to be taken, and Vettel's car failed to provide that much, then yes, he gets a DQ. Harsh, but clearly defined in the rules, unlike the racing incidents where it's (usually) down to subjective judgement as to whether it was within the rules or not. Supposedly there was about 1.4l of fuel remaining in the car so either they need to modify their system to be able to drain it or they need to fix their telemetry to more accurately reflect what really is available.

MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi announces retirement
- from two-wheels.

He has shown a liking for 4-wheels - like John Surtees.
Having famously flirted with a switch to Formula 1 in the 2000s and taken part in a number of car events, Rossi has previously expressed a desire to race GT3 machinery after his MotoGP career and potentially compete in the Le Mans 24 Hours.

Aston Martin has failed in its bid to seek a review of Sebastian Vettel’s disqualification from Formula 1's Hungarian Grand Prix, after an FIA hearing on Monday.

Remains DQ

Japanese Grand Prix canceled due to Covid-19 pandemic

https://www.cnn.com/2021/08/18/motorspo ... index.html

(Reuters)The 2021 Japanese Formula One Grand Prix has been canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic for the second successive year, race organizers said on Wednesday.

The cancellation of the race, scheduled for the weekend of October 8-10 at the Suzuka circuit, follows the abandonment of Singapore's October 1-3 night race.
"Following ongoing discussions with the promoter and authorities in Japan, the decision has been taken by the Japanese government to cancel the race this season due to ongoing complexities of the pandemic in the country," Formula One said in a statement.
"Formula One is now working on the details of the revised calendar and will announce the final details in the coming weeks."
Japan recently hosted the Olympic Games in Tokyo without the presence of spectators, while the Paralympic competitions, scheduled from Aug. 24 to Sept. 5, will also be held without fans in attendance.

So they can run the Olympics for two weeks, with people from all over world, but they can't run a three-day event to which far less people will attend? Hmmm....

They are stuck with the Paralympics, which they clearly don't want, and are facing huge issues... F1 is the last distraction they need.

Japan sees record number of Covid cases days before Paralympics begin.

Critical care beds are nearing capacity in Tokyo and prefectures outside the capital are also tackling worst ever outbreak
