Mind you, Russell on the podium. Not meaning to be unkind, but I doubt he would have been there in a full race. Will there be Were there any highlights?

Re: Formula One
Running two laps so it was a "real" race was just a ploy to satisfy contractual obligations - and of course, to avoid refunding spectators. For once I agree with Hamilton's comments after the "race". A disgraceful exercise in marketing.

Re: Formula One
It did two things though. It demonstrated that the spray kicked up made racing impossible. It also showed that the water was not dispersed by the cars which is sometimes the case.
I wonder what speeds they were doing.

Re: Formula One
Idle question, what determines where each team is positioned in the pits? Is there an advantage /disadvantage in being first or last?

Re: Formula One
Spa seems to suffer with a surfeit of rainfall. A lot of the races there have been affected by rain over the years. I remember my son and his missus going there a few years ago now. They were camping and it rained the whole time. There was a little racing, but not the full number of laps by any means. I know rain can fall anywhere at any time, but it seems the Spa has some sort of adverse microclimate.

Re: Formula One
As you say, the Ardennes have their own microclimates and the forest seems to trap the moisure resulting in clag and fog. As you know, Spa was infamous for accidents resulting from the varying climatic conditions around the old longer track and was the cause of Jackie Stewart's big crash in 1966, which started him off on his safety crusade.tango15 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 30, 2021 9:08 amSpa seems to suffer with a surfeit of rainfall. https://www.collierautomedia.com/circui ... ncorchampsAs at the Nürburgring and Le Mans, the races at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps started out running on public roads. One of the circuit’s major events early on was the first Belgian Grand Prix in 1925. Even back then, at nine miles – double the length of what the track is today – Spa was blistering fast, possibly the fastest track in all of Europe.
In relentless pursuit of great speed, Spa became notorious for fatal accidents. In the 1960 Grand Prix, after Stirling Moss had been severely injured in a crash during practice, two drivers died fifteen minutes apart from each other. By the time the 1960s drew to a close, there had been fifteen fatalities in twelve years. In 1969, Formula 1 drivers had had enough and decided to boycott the Belgian Grand Prix that year. Armco crash barriers were added in 1970.
With the barriers added, fatal accidents declined, but the track was still deemed extremely treacherous through the 1970s. The track is located in the Ardennes Forest, where microclimates can create strange weather conditions – it can be raining or moist in one part of the track while at the same time it’s bone-dry in another section. Logistically, securing the entire track was too massive a job and so the track was shortened in 1979 to seven miles.

Re: Formula One
Interesting GG. I think the Ardennes is only good for producing pate, but don't tell Paul McCartney I said that!
I think the rain may have affected Hamilton's dress sense - or is it Stevie Wonder?

The Mercedes 'course cars' seem to have been replaced by Aston Martins.

Mercedes have obviously subcontracted their "expert advice" to Red Bull.
