Formula One
Re: Formula One
Racing Point had a difficult decision to make:-
Take on a 4-times World Champion who hasn't won anything or finished in the points recently (at megabucks) or buy-out their 7-years pay-driver's three-year contract.
There has to be a back-story there.

What a clusterfcuk.
And it gets worse.
And I thought it was going to be a good race.

I am uncomfortable with Lewis's choice of T-shirt on the podium.
I see he removed it . . .

Re: Formula One
Brilliant driver, childish political views. I had to research Breonna Taylor. Never heard of her. Methinks Hamilton could find some good causes far nearer to home if he really must.

Re: Formula One
Amen.
Whatever one may think, Hamilton is surely going to beat Schumaker's record and will be remembered as the best British driver of the modern era.

I spent my life sticking up for the oppressed and discriminated against, and still do, but unlike Hamilton, I choose people nearby, nor are they people who use arms against law officers.

F1 is an international sport I guess! The world is his lobster. Anyway Hamilton is entitled to support whatever causes he chooses. Just as you are!

I am all in favour of saving the Pangolin although there are none in my neighborhood!

"What has the Pangolin got to do with Aston Martin?", you may reasonably ask.TheGreenGoblin wrote: ↑Sun Sep 13, 2020 6:37 pmF1 is an international sport I guess! The world is his lobster. Anyway Hamilton is entitled to support whatever causes he chooses. Just as you are!

Re: Formula One
Well-known name over here. She was asleep in her bed when plain-clothes police broke in and shot her several times. Her boyfriend grabbed a gun and started shooting back, as one might if you were completely unexpectedly attacked in the middle of the night by unknown assailants, and they tried to charge him with attempted murder (charges eventually dropped) for trying to defend himself and his girlfriend. There was no excuse for the cop to shoot Taylor and he damn well should be tried for murder. It also turns out that they had the wrong address anyway.

Re: Formula One
Not true. All reports agree that the first shot (singular) was fired through the door by the boyfriend when the police hammered on the door. It struck and wounded a police officer in the leg. Breonna Taylor was not in bed asleep when hit but standing with her boyfriend in the passage. Hit by five shots.
In a country as violent as the USA the last thing anyone with an iota of sense would do is fire through a door after shouts of "Police! Open up! "

Re: Formula One
I thought the sound of Schumacher's Ferrari (driven by his son Mick) was 'out of this World'.
Re: Formula One
I think the problem, is that they just hammered the door with a battering ram and at no point clearly identified themselves as police. There is the concept of the "no knock" search warrant over here where they're not required to identify themselves because of a fear that evidence might be destroyed if those inside are given warning. The boyfriend thought it might be her ex breaking down the door so to him it was perfectly justifiable self-defence to shoot. Then it turns out they didn't give her medical attention for 20 minutes either.
It is notable that quite a lot of places announced they were no longer going to use such warrants in future.
The officers concerned should stand trial. If there's insufficient evidence then they'll be acquitted.

Llondel, that's what I saw, but as Mrs PN said, who goes to bed with a gun.
What a state they are in. Ignore the NRA and the right to bear arms, banning fire arms is impossible.
We are still turning up WW2 weapons from a low base and have East European weapons being imported.

Sometimes it's in the drawer of a bedside table to be easily accessible if needed at night. I do know of a family where everyone allegedly slept with their loaded gun under their pillow. I can quite believe it, but I wouldn't want such a thing under my head.Pontius Navigator wrote: ↑Sun Sep 13, 2020 9:25 pmLlondel, that's what I saw, but as Mrs PN said, who goes to bed with a gun.

Re: Formula One
Anyway, back to the racing. What did people think of the Ferrari paintwork? It looks to me like someone has gone mad with the barbecue sauce. Is this a one-off for Mugello, or are we seeing a diversionary tactic to deflect from their poor performance?
G-CPTN:
A weakness of Mugello is the restricted access for recovery vehicles.
I agree and not just Mugello. Also, the arrangements for getting broken cars out of the tyre barriers seem primitive to those at Silverstone, for example. There they simply use a flat-bed truck with a crane and the whole thing is over in minutes. I don't understand why they use these wheeled crane things which are very slow and have the vehicle swinging all over the place.

Re: Formula One
'Wheeled cranes' are essential for recovering crashed vehicles from grassed areas or bogged in gravel.
Because Mugello is primarily used for motorbike racing they don't have adequate gaps in the barriers (as was seen when they failed to get a car through a 'gate' and had to bring a crane to lift it over).
