I will not contaminate this motor racing thread with any more ideological twaddle barkingmad.
OK TGG, back to the topic of motor sports.

I have to assume some here in O-N are total devotees of watching Formula One, the most expensive, as well as boring, Scalextric set in the World.

I find more inspiration and entertainment from watching the change in colour of the Farrow & Ball paint I have just lovingly applied to the coving in the sitting room as it slowly dries to the final shade.

Now Formula Three, or even Go-Kart racing is a different matter altogether. But my enjoyment of those sports was modified when this video crashed through the straw bales barrier into my living room, since when I have thought differently about them;

It certainly can be boring but if one is a true devotee, there is always the the technical side of the cars to enjoy and the fascination of Silverstone or (preferably) Monaco or Spa on a race day.

The lower formulae generally offer a great deal of interest in terms of racing too but for all round enjoyment I suggest a Goodwood weekend. One can even fly oneself in
there!

My pleasure also, TGG. I'm glad I've been able to provide a social service on this occasion!

I'm actually a secret petrolhead of sorts, enjoying oily and grazed fingers during a major restoration of my kitcar and hoping to get it back on the road before I'm too old and decrepit to squeeze into it!

Alas the OAT/TAT in this part of England is inhibiting spanner work for a while. :)) =)) :-o

Renault

#628 Post by Wodrick » Mon Jan 11, 2021 4:48 pm

Renault Formula 1 team boss Cyril Abiteboul is leaving the French car manufacturer, it was announced on Monday.

The Frenchman had been expected to move into a new role within the company following a management shake-up at the rebranded Alpine squad, but instead he is departing completely.

His exit has resulted in Laurent Rossi, director of strategy and business development at Renault, being appointed as the CEO of Alpine.

Rossi will take charge of Alpine cars, its F1 team and other motorsport activities. He will report directly to Luca de Meo, Renault's CEO.

It is expected that Abiteboul's position as team principal of the F1 squad will be taken by Marcin Budkowski.

Speaking about his departure, Abiteboul said that he felt that he was leaving behind a strong base for the French car manufacturer to grow.

"I would like to thank the Groupe Renault for having trusted me for many years, particularly with the relaunch and reconstruction of the team since 2016," he said.

Gotta remember, the French government owns a 15% share of Renault.

They've probably agreed that he gets one more year to break the record and get #8, after which they don't guarantee to have a competitive car and might not be able to afford him anyway.

With a budget cap of £114m in 2022 LH's loot of £40m+ would not leave much else for the other 1,999 team members. They could get back to painting the cars in a colour nearer to Bottas homeland, like white or silver.

Fernando Alonso has been rushed to hospital after being run over while cycling near his home in Switzerland.
Initial unconfirmed reports say he may have suffered broken bones in the incident, which happened while he was training on his bike.

Fracture of jawbone, surgery, two days in hospital, not expected to impact his F1 reappearance.
Wonder what Swiss hospitals are like? No personal experience.
