The Hermeus declared aim of "up to Mach 5" seems a bit over the top to me, with the high thermal heating due to skin friction apparently to be dealt with by extensive use of titanium for the primary structure. I wonder whether that might prove a step too far perhaps, on grounds of high cost and potential fabrication problems, using a less than conventional material for vital components, on a large scale. I happen to have a couple of dental implants made of titanium, in which the metal embedded in my jaw cost me oodles of cash for such a small quantity, although much of that went on the highly skilled orthodontics of my dental surgeon of course, but despite that, I do wonder whether big and complex components on an aircraft can be produced which behave in service as well as my little implants!

The "Boom Supersonic" proposals for a Mach 2.2 machine would probably still be possible using conventional aluminium alloys like Concorde, producing a modest (and maybe more achievable) 10% speed increase over the proven Concorde service experience. If I was a betting man (I'm not), then I would plump for the Boom Supersonic project. But first, they would have to change that name, I mean to say!!

So how fast can your teeth go 603DX?

If you travelled from Paris to NYC at Mach5 you'd arrive long before you departed.

There would be no proof that you'd travelled.

It would be a bugger trying to chase them down the cabin.

Once had clients arrive here but only the wife got off the ship. Her husband had lost his teeth and couldn't remember the cabin number. They do not delay departures for any reason. I spoke to the captain. He was so amused that he delayed the departure. They were located. Used to fly with a captain who stayed in a caravan near Gatwick. He arrived one day in the winter with his false teeth frozen into a glass of water in his nav bag. They defrosted on the flight deck.
