Only one of the big three U.S. manufacturers that didn't take Obama (my) money a few years back.
Plus, I really like old school, regular cab, short-bed trucks. No need for the behemoth of West Coast, but like those as well.

I like the Toyota Hiluxes - and if I lived out Bush, the Single Cab Toyota Land Cruisers utes (or tray backs).
The problem we have here now is all of the really good 4WD's have become full of mod cons, soft rides,
electrics etc.
And in addition, they even stick things like the Alternator or Starter motor low down in the engine bay
and BELOW even a low water level.

Agreed on the HiLux, but it's not available on the US market.
Low mounted electrics signals the inevitable fact that the majority of pick-ups/SUVs are urban wannabe's, not for serious work. As mine is as well, admittedly.

The problem is, in Aus Utes are a work vehicle in a lot of places.
It has been said to me quite often that a fair few people want a basic ute without some of the mod cons
that go wrong in high dust / humid / wet environments.
Like Northern Australia.
Re: Hello, anyone home?
I used to see those big Toyota Hi-Lux pick-ups at the filling station in Hassi Messaoud, the ones with a double cab, double fuel tanks, hairy water bags hanging off the bull bars, four guys inside all dressed for the desert, everything covered in a thick layer of dust ... and then think back to London and seeing the odd Chelsea Tractor with a thin layer of fake mud sprayed on it, trying for this very look.

Stock pic of my old truck. 35 odd years old now and still going strong.
