I think that I would choose Hedy Lamarr, or if she was busy possibly Mrs Peel from the Avengers.

Our 1st holiday in civilian life, Kidwelly, S. Wales. 1969. 4 years after demob.

A workmate owned the caravan, we got it cheap.

I can't think of anyone, past or present, who could induce me to spend two days, let alone two weeks, in a caravan in Rhyl.

Better than a week at Ingoldmills Caravan Park, Skeggy. Now there's a name that conjures up exotic thoughts from the 1950's. Not.

I have spent a weekend in a caravan park in Skeggy. I was too drunk to remember which, and I can heartily recommend Too Drunk as the perfect accompaniment to any visit to Skeggy.
My only extended caravan stay was a month in one belonging to one of my flying instructors. It was near St Tropez. Surprisingly, it was better than Skeggy

Had to look up where and what Rhyl is. Since therefore it will be cold wet and miserable I’d expect to be locked in aforementioned caravan for the 14 day duration.

As for who I’d shack up with is a toss between Jane Jetson and Betty Rubble. Wouldn’t mind having both though.

My late parents kept on trying to lend us their caravan. We couldn't see the problem of staying in a hotel. They should be banned during daylight hours on public roads. Winding county lanes in Cornwall in the summer are brought to a standstill because of those mobile sheds.

This was taken New Years Day 1958, at a 'do' in Marseille.

The young lad at the front with a Sparks badge was a 20 year old me!

His name was Reg Truscott, he was the MT Sgt.

We had a Bedford bus, a Landrover, Standard Vanguard pickup and the OC's Vanguard saloon.
He had an SAC driver/mechanic as his complete staff!

Because of the NATO Treaty that we were there under, we were supposed to supervise the Ffrench doing the work on transient a/c. So all aircraft tradesmen were NCO's.
But to speed things along, we all mucked in and did the work ourselves.

90% of the work was refuelling, re-oiling and a/c handling. This caused me a problem later when I was on 214 Sqdn. One of our Valiants left the dispersal to fly, developed a snag and returned unannounced. The only phone line to the Sqdn dispersal was in use so the tower couldn't tell us it was returning.
I was out on the line and saw it, and marshalled it into the pan it had been on earlier.

This got me a bollocking from the Crew Chief, because 'Fairies can't marshal!' So I never did again.

He should have seen the strip at Istres when the Hunter Sqdn's on detachment at Luqa changed over and we had two complete sqdn's on the ground at the same time. This on top of of our usual traffic. One of our most enthusiastic workers was our Cpl Medic! He loved getting his hands dirty.

I went to Rhyl once for about 10 minutes. I remember it distinctly!

I've been through it on the train twice, that was once too often. Mind you the second time was on the way from Holyhead and it's nice to go anywhere from Holyhead.

Tornado F3 and GPZ900R, fastest ways out of Holyhead / RAF Valley by air or road. Believe me, if there were faster ways I would have found them!

Never been to Rhyl but enjoy caravanning, camper van and camping.

There will be those amongst us who can remember the 1950s housing shortage and the 2 year waiting list for a MQ. In those days many RAF stations had a satellite caravan park. After we came back from Tengah, dad was posted to ATDU at RNAS Culdrose. He bought a 22ft Bluebird caravan which was augmented by a 14 ft caravan which served as the bathroom (proper bath) and bedroom for 2 kids. The caravans were sited where the viewing area for the station is now.

This was to be our home for 4 years. I well remember that rain on the roof and tucking down into my blankets with a shiver down my spine.

Camper vans and caravans have allowed me to explore places all over Europe that, otherwise, I could never have afforded.

Until I met Señora Larss, I had an ambition of buying myself a luxury motorhome, hooking up the DG and touring the best gliding sites in Europe.

But Rhyl. Yes, that's a problem. 2 weeks to say?

My perfect companion would be Michelle Yeoh!

I must be lucky, never been to Rhyl!
However, I have been to Holyhead (more than once, unfortunately). Had to stay overnight on one occasion and a search of hotels showed that there was not a single one I would stay in! Had to go to Trearddur Bay to find one worth staying in for the night.
But to return to the original question, there is one particular lady who would have been an ideal companion for a few days anywhere, Rhyl included, but I am not saying who she is!
