ROCKY POINT, MEXICO (3TV/CBS5) -- It was a rough day in Rocky Point for one visitor whose truck got swept right into the ocean.

This happened in the Las Conchas community of Puerto Peñasco (Rocky Point) just a few hours' drive south from Phoenix.

Folks in the area believe the driver was a young man from Arizona visiting the resort town. The truck still had dealer plates, so it appeared to be almost brand new.

We're told the driver was tooling along the beach when his truck got stuck in the sand. That's when the tide rolled in, and he couldn't get the vehicle out of the water. A photo showed the truck submerged almost up to its roof in water.

When the tide receded, it was not good news. The truck had been stripped. The doors were missing, the hood was gone, and the engine had been dismantled.

Thankfully, no one was hurt.

Unfortunately, the driver admitted to bystanders that he had not purchased Mexican insurance. We just hope he has another ride back over the border.

Me neither, maybe your browser, PN?
Former AZ resident here. There are quite a few AZ truck drivers who, if they had another brain cell, it would be lonely. I rode a motorcycle in AZ. Most people regarded this as braver than flying fast jets, including the fast jet instructors at Luke, given the driving skills of the average Arizonan. Put it this way, the driving test starts with the candidate doing a three point turn in the exam center yard, whilst the examiner observes from behind a specially reinforced wall quite a few yards away. Only if no accidents result does the examiner risk actually getting into the vehicle. The Scottsdale test route ventures onto the main road for a massive 200 yards, the rest of it being around a deserted industrial park, and the examiner tells you exactly what to do well before every junction.

FOX:

It is way worse on the roads than when you were here.
Red light runners
Wrong way drivers on freeways
Car pedestrian / light rail pedestrian (in fairness most pedestrian accident occur mid-block at night. Lazy idiots)
Hit and run
Joyridding in stolen vehicles
Road rage
The list goes on.

Well, it was bad enough then. My chief pilot, stopped at lights, got his new truck rammed from behind by a compact at 50mph. Middle of the day, 93 million miles visibility, empty roads, etc.
Safer to fly everywhere! ;)))

Two men in a pub at Wainfleet, told that at very low tide you could drive across The Wash to Hunstanton. They tried.

One of my workers, allowed out on his own left the unmarked but briefed track. Despite it being tidal wheel tracks persisted for a few days. He had to walk back. Same day out tractor broke down about 3 miles out, our JCB ran into quicksand dragging us out and we had to walk back. My site manager met us half way in the sole remaining vehicle, a Toyota pickup.

The stranded pickup was recovered a few days later and the two tractors notified to the Hydrographic Office as a hazard to shipping. They were recovered some months later.

Back when I was a young bloke, an old bloke I worked with told me how, when working in Qld, he'd got a landrover & trailer sandbogged in the Burdekin River - it's a pretty wide coastal river that drains from the Great Dividing Range. He and his offsider walked out to find a tractor, but by the time they'd found one a flood had come down and the vehicle & trailer were never seen again.
Years later, I met the bloke who'd been his offsider, who told me a bit more of the story. Apparently, my original informant had never returned to his employer - he'd just vanished from the scene.
