Chemical plant south of Tarragona blew up yesterday, man killed inside his apartment three kilometres away when a steel plate weighing over a ton hit the building demolishing it. Authorities said no danger of chemical hazard but everyone for miles told to stay inside with windows and doors shut. Draw your own conclusions.

It was making ethylene oxide. Just the sound of the name made me think it was an 'interesting' substance so I looked it up on Wikipedia and yes, it is. Among other things, it's carcinogenic, an irritant and an anaesthetic, so it will annoy you to sleep and then kill you.

Seeing the photos it looked as if the steel plate shot between two other buildings, quite a narrow gap, and hit an apartment window in a third block where the victim named Sergio was sitting, taking out the beam over the window.

When it's time to go, it's time to go. The chap with the scythe will find you somehow.

What an unfortunate way to shuffle off this mortal coal.

Sounds like it might have been a bleve!

Watch the railroad car fly a kilometre...

Then there was the manhole/metal cover cover that was blasted (allegedly) into space, or not, during a nuclear explosion.

New term learnt: bleve
