I was pax in a Bell 47 in Bougainville when it was attacked by a wedgetailed eagle. The pilot saw it coming and banked, catching the wedgie in the wash, which ruffled its feathers more than somewhat.

...….Donkeys on the road between Akrotiri and Limassol were a similar hazard. Especially on Saturday nights.
Why? Had they just been paid & on a night out?

Friend of mine lost an eye in a Hunter.
Sh!t! Poor bugger. What happened to him after his piloting career untimely ended back then Boac? He must’ve been a young bloke.

Talking of UFO's I have seen what at first looked like a tornado or rather a dark dust devil reaching up from the ground to about 800 feet. An amazing sight but it wasn't a meteorological phenomenon but a huge swarm of midge like insects spiraling up in a synchronized ballet. Nature is rather wonderful in so many ways...

Slasher - he went 'nav' very successfully.

TGG - it probably was "a meteorological phenomenon" - a nascent dust devil ie a rising thermal in which they hitched a ride.

Your point is well made. Maybe the insects did me a good turn as I avoided them and, by implication, the turbulence of the thermal.
