300ml or Rain overnight!

#1 Post by Fliegenmong » Sat Jan 18, 2020 12:51 am

Lots of localised flooding...The park behind Sister in Laws house turned to a virtual inland Sea....the water coming up in the bathroom floor drain and flooding her place...

Naturally it was reported as a Life threatening and a once in a 100 year rain 'event', as to be expected, it is always reported like that!...Won't break the Drought out West, and of course all the run off goes to out to the Ocean
rather than any new dams...'cause you know...we're a real smart Country... :-q

Of droughts and flooding rains. ....She was a Prophet was our Dorothea, she was onto Climate change more than 100 years ago!

'My Country'

The love of field and coppice
Of green and shaded lanes,
Of ordered woods and gardens
Is running in your veins.
Strong love of grey-blue distance,
Brown streams and soft, dim skies
I know, but cannot share it,
My love is otherwise.

I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror
The wide brown land for me!

The stark white ring-barked forests,
All tragic to the moon,
The sapphire-misted mountains,
The hot gold hush of noon,
Green tangle of the brushes
Where lithe lianas coil,
And orchids deck the tree-tops,
And ferns the warm dark soil.

Core of my heart, my country!
Her pitiless blue sky,
When, sick at heart, around us
We see the cattle die
But then the grey clouds gather,
And we can bless again
The drumming of an army,
The steady soaking rain.

Core of my heart, my country!
Land of the rainbow gold,
For flood and fire and famine
She pays us back threefold.
Over the thirsty paddocks,
Watch, after many days,
The filmy veil of greenness
That thickens as we gaze ...

An opal-hearted country,
A wilful, lavish land
All you who have not loved her,
You will not understand
though Earth holds many splendours,
Wherever I may die,
I know to what brown country
My homing thoughts will fly.

I was tempted to post one of Midnight Oil's tracks to infuriate you (and surely Captain Slasher) so feck it... I will! :))

Seriously. Best to you guys in Aus and may it rain and all cool down. I spent a year elsewhere in the world where the temperature hovered around 40 degrees Celsius for a year... it had no affect on meeee! @-)

Yes Gob - infuriated! :p

Can’t stand that twitching bone-domed idiot. Never have.

Betcha Ex-A could use some of that rain.

How can we drink when the beer in burning?
How do we sleep while the bats are churning?
The time has come to say fair’s fair
To boot their arse...back in the air.

Speshly for the Gob. :)

Bots is Burning

🎵
Out where the Manor broke
The lagoon and Ex-A folk
Hippo sweats and boiling beerstills
Steam in forty-five degrees.

The time has come, to say fair's fair
To have our rain, to get our share
The Dry has come, Lagoon’s all bull
It belongs to us, we want it full.

How can we drink when our beer is burning?
How do we sleep while the bats are churning?
How can we fly while the kid’s still learning?
How to stay sober while the booze is yearning?

The time has come to have storm fare
To have our rain now, to cop our share.

Gun shots scare the dark yahoos
From Maun town east, to Timbuktu
The Ascot Manor dries and seethes
In forty-five degrees

The time has come to say fcuk off
To boot those bats just to piss them off
The cops have come, our place was robbed
It belongs to us, we won’t be fobbed.

How can we eat while the bats are ****?
How do we bathe with the weather so spiffing?

The Squiff just sits there all alone
It gets infested to the bone
The ‘derms are home to ticks and fleas
In forty-five degrees.
🎵

We've had about 60mm over the last 48 hours, falling as steady, soaking rain. Just up the road has had over 100, but about 40mm of that was in a deluge that would have done more harm than good, taking topsoil with it.

I bet you are ironic about the dams and being real smart Country but what's the story behind the dams in your neck of woods? I understand that dams turn to be excellent places for birds and animals to gather hence they are considered a positive contribution to bio-diversity and the local environment. So why no new dams are built around your area.

The loony greenies didn’t allow ‘em RiS so I was told, saying they wreck ‘the environment’ like uranium mines and golf courses or some leftocrap like that. But melbourne hasn’t run out of water just yet. I thought it would have by now.

After Alison's report of torrential rain a day or so agsin, the BBC was obviously able to redeploy its drought/fire team to cover the rain/floods, but this 'news' was last night.

Was it still raining heavily yesterday?

Actually that's a bit harsh'....I'm not a 'Greenie', but my last post made me sound indifferent to species extinction...which I'm not. BUT, if you're going to invite more & more people to come here.....build the infrastructure to cope with it!! FFS, it's not hard to see

Fliegs you said nothing harsh whatsoever. What you stated was on the money (apart from the lessur misspell!).
