I hope NATS at LGW doesn’t see that one or it might give them ideas?

Who needs to turn the airport around?
Re: Do we really nead ATC?
It works because the departing aircraft keeps below the glide slope!

I lost my first instructor to a mid air over the M25...
Apart from an engine fire and my own natural stupidity, a mid air has been as close as I have been to being killed in the air.
There are no METARS's for such a disgrace,,,

Re: Do we really nead ATC?
You are probably right about that!
I notice that in light winds they always land towards the loading site and take off in the other direction, in strong winds they don't operate at all.

Where is it, John?
Re: Do we really nead ATC?
I dont know where it is but I assume one of hundreds of similar farm airstrips to be found in rural NZ.
The aircraft are I believe Pacific Aerospace Crescos (or the aircraft that superseded them).

Reminds me of the PNG Bush strips.
Although we kept larger separation from each other than that shown.

Re: Do we really nead ATC?
Missed a glider, in a BN2T once, by about two feet. He was flying illegally in a drop zone. Looking out was never one of my strong points, usually reading the newspaper. I would have won anyway he went underneath and the fixed gear would have taken his head off. He then had the audacity and foolishness to come around and accuse me of trying to kill him. He got very aggressive but I had about 50 burly parachutists to protect me. I reported him.
It used to be great fun when a student pilot from Kiddlington wandered into the zone. I used to intercept. A relatively large Islander suddenly on his wing would scare the ***** out of them. They would turn away but I was still with them. They didn't know how much danger they were in as my formation flying was crap.

Re: Do we really nead ATC?
Ah so desu; The Turbine powered Bongo Van! Never even seen one! One allegedly appeared in PNG as a demo model way before my time there but supposedly disappeared just as quickly as it arrived!in a BN2T once,
Don't suppose that it was any easier on the Pilots hearing as the Piston powered version.
As an aside; Every Aviation Medical for my Japanese licence includes a full audio test. Every one since the first (1996) indicated a 20% loss in the upper register. When the Doctor asked if I had any idea why this was so, I asked if 800 or so hours in BN2's could be the cause.
His answer was similar to the first few words in this post!
