Re: Trivia Question of the Day
Briefly back to divine wind if I may;
The kamikaze (Japanese: 神風, lit. 'divine wind') were two winds or storms that are said to have saved Japan from two Mongol fleets under Kublai Khan. These fleets attacked Japan in 1274 and again in 1281.[1] Due to the growth of Zen Buddhism among Samurai at the time, these were the first events where the typhoons were described as "divine wind" as much by their timing as by their force.

Not French-speaking
Not a French colony
Belgium is not part of it now.
Is a current European monarchy with a king, after three previous queens; the next monarch will be a queen.

Consider yourself surprised!
Well done talmacapt, and over to you.
https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Je_maintiendraiJe maintiendrai (I will maintain) is the motto of the Netherlands since 1815 .
The [motto] is actually the motto of the house of Orange-Nassau , which William of Orange inherited with the principality of Orange through the inheritance of René van Chalon . Originally the [motto] was Je maintiendrai Chalon, but Willem changed it to Je maintiendrai Nassau. After some time he omitted Nassau and this simply became Je maintiendrai.
Well done talmacapt, and over to you.

It was the proliferation of Queens that suggested the answer for me.

That is to say, John Boyd Dunlop.

Re: Trivia Question of the Day
That is not correct.
He thought he had but another had patented it before him.

Re: Trivia Question of the Day
I was thinking Charles Goodyear, but I think he was just credited with vulcanisation. I think the tyre company bearing his name was founded after his death.

Not Goodyear.
Sadly neither Fred nor Wilma.
Dunlop claimed to have done it in 1888 but it was patented by another Scotsman in 1846.
Who is this other Scotsman.

It's long enough.
Robert William Thomson patented the pneumatic tyre in 1846.
The National Museum of Scotland website has the details.
Open house declared.

O/H. OK sticking with the same era. 1829 to be precise. For you railway enthusiasts. What was the top speed of Stephenson's Rocket?
