This was an excellent idea Cape.

Anyway, older than most guesses so far.

I’ll take a wild guess and say the bitches can last up to 40-50 years. It has to be really high Sah otherwise you wouldn’t’ve posed the question.

You have it Capt. 50 years proven but some scientists think maybe 100. Just checked, see you have them in Thailand. They are bastards. We are incredibly lucky. We have them 2kms down river and 2kms up river but not actually on our estate. Once did a walk with a guide who had done a PhD on them. Actually a very interesting subject. More trivia. You can navigate in the bush by termite mounds. They always lean to the west down here. They build at night and the sun rising in the east and the prevailing easterly wind dries the easterly side first making it lean to the west. So there.

All yours Capt.

Thanks sah. Yeh we have ‘em in N Thailand too. Main thing is the roof beams need to be inspected once a year.

Ok here’s mine. Mind you there’s a trick to it.

How do you get down from an elephant?

This isn't trivia but is a genuine question; I have no idea of the answer.

We have all sat at Christmas wrestling with a nutcracker trying to extract a Brazil nut from its iron hard shell only to be left with bits of shell and nut to be scattered on our laps or the carpet. Yet we can buy jars or packs of perfectly de-husked Brazil nuts in the baking section.

How do they do this?

I imagine rows of beautiful, bronze skinned maidens who delicately place said nut between their thighs and, using exceptional muscle control, proceed to crack the nuts. Think Cuban ladies rolling cigars and you get the idea.

As with walnuts, I believe that they are peeled when the shells are green and soft.

Almonds too. Used to pick Almonds outside the Mess at Kinloss. We have walnuts growing near us in Lincolnshire. Crows pick them and drop them on concrete.

How disappointing that one's pervy fantasies have been destroyed by such prosaicocity.

I've found that when cracking Brazil nuts, if you put the nutcracker longitudinally rather than transversely, the shell can be removed in two or three pieces, leaving the kernel unsullied.

I have heard that the aptly named item has been put to other nuts too.
