The first major battle of the Spanish American War was the Battle of Manila Bay in 1898. How many US fatalities were suffered as a result of the engagement?

Absolutely no idea. How about 1,000.

I would go for a low number for ending with such a question here? 78

Ex-Ascot went for 1,000 so I'll go for a more modest 100. :D

RiS is the closest.

The answer is zero, amazingly. Although one sailor is recorded as dying of 'illness'. I think seven were injured.

The Spanish suffered less than 100 fatalities.

RiS has the con.

OH because the only question I can master is the origin of the handshake - which for our audience is so elementary

No RiS let us stick with your question. I didn't know but have looked it up.
