There are only two doubly landlocked countries in the world, i.e. a country surrounded only by a country or countries which themselves have no access to the sea.

What are they?

Liechtenstein is one, surrounded by AT and CH.

The other is a Stan but not Uzbeki ...

Along with Liechtenstein, it is one of only two doubly landlocked countries.

I apologise. For some reason I thought it was Kyrgyzstan and didn't check, that's what happens when you rely on an ageing memory! Sorry.

Think the answer may be somewhere in Australia.

*RIS* is nearest YHC
The driest place on Earth is in Antarctica in an area called the Dry Valleys, which have seen no rain for nearly 2 million years. There is absolutely no precipitation in this region and it makes up a 4800 square kilometer region of almost no water, ice or snow. Water features include Lake Vida, Lake Vanda, Lake Bonney and the Onyx River. There is no net gain of water. The reason why this region receives no rain is due to Katabatic winds, winds from the mountains that are so heavy with moisture that gravity pulls them down and away from the Valleys.

Astronaut? I think Cosmonauts hold that record.
