Dogs and helicopters

#1 Post by llondel » Wed Feb 26, 2020 1:10 am

Came across this one today. I know people on here express reservations about getting in a helicopter, seems there are Leonbergers who will jump out. They make good water rescue dogs.

There was a tale from the US East Coast a while back about one Leo who went down from a helicopter into floodwater because of a child trapped inside an area with no access big enough for an adult human to get in. The dog went in, and after a very long time with a slack cable and no sign of the dog, long enough for those still in the air to start discussing having one of them jump in too, the dog swam back into view, towing the child. The child was later overheard telling his mother that the dog laid next to him until he was brave enough to leave.

They will probably be qualified to occupy the cockpit of the future. 1 pilot and 1 dog.
Pilot's job - feed the dog.
Dog's job - keep pilot from touching anything.

=))

She did not want to get left behind. She would play in our water holes and we would try scoop her up in the fire bucket.....

Left paw to set the QNH and dial up a frequency. Right paw on the cyclic and the tail curled around the collective. Dogs with long tails would make the best helicopter pilots if it weren't for the pedals.

She thinks that she will get a bit lighter around the tummy by using the trim button.
