If you had a chance to be born again, what country would you choose to wail in?

My own question confounds me, because I know the answer should be "well just where I was born pilgrim" but I know that, in my case, that is a total lie...

What think the wisdom of ages here?

England of course. No where better. Might have gone down a bit in the general scheme of things, but still better than anywhere else. Unfortunately haven't been able to return for twenty years, but not for want of trying.

A northern area Scandinavia, Finland or Canada. I like the harsh winter.

Such a long thread title, by the time I got to WALL IN I thought it was 'be walled in . . . for 14 days Corona virus quarantine.'

To be born an Yorkshireman is to have won the lottery of life.

There seem to be a lot of Yorkshiremen here! :)

Surely a Lancastrian will pipe up.

Not if he knows what's good for him, the Wars of the Roses never really ended.

I was born in Yorkshire, but at the age of 2 my parents emigrated. To Lancashire. My Father reckoned I'm a cross between a Yorkshire Tyke and a Lancashire Tup. ( whatever that was ? ) but my allegiance is definitley to Yorkshire ( West Riding, as was)

..and here's me thinking you're a Smoggie. ;)))

I wouldn't want to have been born anywhere else; that would mean I'd be a furriner.

Born on the right side of Hadrian's Wall....the Jocks think I'm English, the English think I'm a Jock....at least I'm not a Mackem!! :D

I was born in Oxford, but that hasn't influenced my life I don't think, I am quite happy being English when the alternatives are viewed, imagine being French or Egyptian for example.
Possibly wouldn't mind being born in Portugal, pleasant climate and as foreigners go they are not too bad, they wash and so on, plus very nice wines available.

I popped out in Greater Salfordia, which in 1950 was Lancashire. I don't mind being Lancastrian, not so proud of Salford.
I never want to return.
Think I could be quite happy on any of the Channel Islands other than Jersey.

SM has always wanted to visit Jersey.

It is all John Nettle's fault, him and his Bergerac character.

Probably Switzerland, or Ireland.

I think the question should be a little more specific in stating whether being born in that country would confer nationality.

Seems to be a lot of 'northerners' boasting about their heritage and ancestry. I was born in Devon but was relocated across the border to Cornwall at the age of 9 and lived there until going to university. Married a woman from Cornwall so I'm a yokel from the westcountry and rather proud of that. Even after 40 years of living all over the world I still have a westcountry 'burr' to my accent.

And I wouldn't change it either.

Hmmm....I live and was born in a rather fabulous place, although rather too busy nowadays. It must be a good place as people keep flocking here, which is of course distracting from its appeal. Beautiful beaches and lovely hinterland nearby, fresh tropical fruits and waterfalls, crystal clear open ocean beaches.

But having spent some time in Copenhagen now, If I had to be born somewhere else then I am thinking perhaps Denmark. Complete opposite to here of course, cold dark & grey, with Summer temps more like our Winter temps.

They seem to really care for their people & the people care of each other. Here in Australia seems to be very dog nasty "f##k you, I'm alright Jack" attitude, and pensioners living off tins of cat food 'cos the Government pension is sooo miniscule whilst the Government wastes Millions & Millions on aid to countries that hate us and myriad other wastefull BS

Born St Helens. Does that make me a Scouser? :-o Anyway, British passport which is the most important thing. Liked living in the Cotswolds but didn't like living in the UK. We are very happy at the moment in the middle of the bush in Bots and three months a year in our little house in the mountains on Amorgos.

Wouldn't want to have been born in Bots though. You wouldn't be able to see me at night. Mind you they don't seem to go bald.
