Fekn flour! I decided to make an Italian loaf (pane pugliese) so opened the tupperware, removed the bag of (bloody pricey) semola remacinata and found it crawling with little brown beasties, probably baby weevil. There will be a few choice words spoken next time I'm in Valvona & Crolla. When all this settles down, there will be cupboards groaning with bread flour, bought "just in case" but never used. The supermarkets have plenty of bread, so I may have to resort to buying the damn stuff when my flour runs out.
No problem there, just use a sieve to remove the wee beasties! Standard procedure with all flour when I lived on an oil camp in the Sumatran jungle in the early 1980's. ALL flour contained weevils. If you kept it in the freezer they were dead weevils but still required sieving out!

Lived there for 4 years and never any ill effects (from weevils at least. Some bad experiences with alcohol though....)

Guilty as charged Fliegs.

Hi G-CPTN it’s the northern half of the Northern Territory of Australia. The squared off bit that sits top dead centre of the continent and runs south to the dead centre. It’s 10% of the Australian land mass with a total population around 230,000 people, several million cattle and abundant, lethal wildlife. Darwin is the focus of the top half. Alice Springs looks after the rest.

Great place to live and raise children, as long as you can cope with temps in the high 30’s and humidity in the high 90’s. Lowest recorded temp is around 12C. We find anything below 20 to be unreasonably cold.

But for a population of 150,000,
Where?

Many thanks - I tried Tasmania, but the numbers didn't fit.

I'm sure that RevJim will agree with me that one should count one's blessings, in Good times and in Bad.

My own personal way of dealing with stress is to throw myself into work.

I'm greatly fortunate in having a couple of local farms where I can do so, usefully and voluntarily without monetary payment or monetary need.

Right now is lambing and fencing season.

Lambing is immensely rewarding. There is deep joy when, as usually happens, a healthy bright young pair of lambs emerge into the electorate.

Sometimes, as happened twice last night, a dead one will emerge from a mother who died in the process. The procedure is to skin it and wrap that skin/fleece around the lamb of another one whose mother has just given birth to a still-born; and let those two live ones bond and get on with life.

Skinning any dead thing is never pleasant, but the result of that procedure can be immensely satisfying for one's soul.

Life goes on, especially as one is not a teenyweeny ickle bitty spherical spikey thing with flat-topped horns which can easily be washed away with warm soapy water.

Not all life forms are sacred. I'm sure RevJim will agree with me on that too.

UP, I have to agree about the therapeutic benefits of work. I'm relatively unaffected, as I can do my normal work in the woodwork shop, but today I spent the day doing good, hard physical work in the garden, cleaning out the compost bin and preparing the old watermelon vines for composting. Then pulled some weeds. I shall sleep well tonight.

Would not sieving weevils outa the semolina leave their droppings behind, which might add a certain flavour to the resultant mix?

The boxes in Tesco on Wednesday were not selling very fast - not sure why there was free mask with each box, though.

Just noticed the other day that woofterism is now legal in 'Bots'. I think it came in with our new President who approved hunting. Is there a coincidence there?

"woofterism is now legal in 'Bots'" - unfortunate turn of phrase, Sir. :-)

If you stand closer than 1.5 metres to other people in Germany it can cost you €150 for the first offence, doubled for a second offence, and for persistent offenders the sky is the limit! Almost anyway, max fine is €25,000!
