;)))

Very welcome and common sight to see the Shackletons coming in over Table Bay as a snotty teenager! ;)))

The engine runs were occurring as of last year, despite shortages of the correct glycol concentrate...

Spectacular aviation scenes from 1918 (speed corrected) 12:35
A few spectacular aerial victory scenes and aviation scenes from 1918

Victory of Raymond Vanier on 19 July 1918 near Cuperly, France, German crew wounded but lived. This was a crew of Schusta/Schlasta 10, Gefreiter Döll and Unteroffizier Liebnitz.
Döll, the pilot, is the man with the bandages at the head, Liebnitz, the observer/gunner, seems to be in shock, sitting next to the plane as well.

Montfaucon 3 October 1918, a German plane shoots down an observation plane and the observer saves himself with a parachute. The plane is shot down as well, the pilot was Unteroffizier Hans Heinrick Marwede according to the titles, actually Hans Heinrich Marwede from Jasta 67 who crashed north east of Montfaucon in the Argonne. There are some images of Marwede sitting down next to the crash site.

The flight of Lt Quentin Roosevelt

On board with Eddie Rickenbacker ...

That will teach him for taking such a Panglossian view of the war, or at least that is what Voltaire would have us believe!

Seriously though, those images are very evocative of the horror and futility of war! I cannot imagine the misery of the pilot in the spinning aircraft, it seemed to take forever to reach the ground. Luckily for the pilot his rate of descent in his bundle of sticks and doped cloth was survivable, and there was no fire.

Sadly the SAAF is going the same way as the Shackleton, namely not airworthy... :(

SAAF Gripens grounded

We certainly don't need any more of that! :-s

Thank you for this Woody. I streamed this to the television and it was much appreciated by my better half and her mom. It was way better than the garbage on mainstream (pun intended) TV last night.

[RANT ON] Talking of "garbage", I had the misfortune to watch 5 minutes of Mrs Brown's Boys, apparently it is "very popular", if so, it is the final proof, if proof was needed, that we are surrounded by morons! Absolutely bloody awful! [RANT OVER]

Now, here's the Model X doing its party trick:

It isn't available on Netflix nor on Amazon Prime in the USA either I see. I cannot abide the fact that you are not able to see this film PHXPhlyer. Even those in the USA should be witness to Lord Chelmsford's shame. ;)))

Outnumbered British soldiers do battle with Zulu warriors at Rorke's Drift. In this fact-based drama, a group of British soldiers in South Africa defends their outpost against attack by an overwhelming force of Zulu warriors.
