In the 1970s and 1980s I greatly enjoyed the company of a fellow member of Embra Flying Club half a hundred times. I never agreed with the main part of his politics, but that never affected our friendship or our drinking habits together.

Ian's still around, though not down here in these here Southern Latitudes nowadays.

He became quite famous, notorious actually, as a result of having pinched the Stone of Scone in 1950.

There's a rather good docudrama, largely in Gaelic, albeit with English subtitles. It tells the story of Kay Matheson, specifically her interrogation by the Poileas.

It's a simple little play, but very well done and really quite powerful in its emotion. Very British, as is the quality of the police work expressed in the film.

It was shown, once, on BBC Alba and did not receive the recognition which I think it deserved.

I commend it to the House.

^ Ian Hamilton had a brief cameo part in the 2008 film Stone of Destiny.

I greatly look forward to reading the text of his telegramme from the German lady or her idiot boy, Wingnut. It'll be a masterpiece of drafting, I'm sure.

Here's Ian, sober, saying a few words a decade ago.

A decade or more (more, hopefully) in the future, when Ian can't sue me for telling the truth, I'll tell here a flying/drinking story. It'll make your stand on end, I promise.

Robert Powell has, in his time, also played Jesus Christ and Gustav Mahler. Should this be in TRABB?

The Jokers (1967) runs 1hr 30min, Michael Crawford and Oliver Reed.
Screenplay by Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais.

I first saw it on tv in the early 1970s; managed to track it down by googling and have watched it on YT several times.

The stage play with 4 actors playing 140 parts was a hoot - I saw it in about 2010. These out of context excerpts don't really convey the hilarity...
