A YouTube channel I've found interesting:

They Got Away With Murder

which re-visits cases from the late 19th century and early 20th, seems well-researched and presented.

I find the narration fairly slow-paced so usually play it at 1.25x, even 1.5x.
And with the morn, those angel faces smile...

Also on YT, Dr Todd Grande whose videos discuss the personal backgrounds and potential mental health factors in the lives of various well-known people.

While I'm listening to him I add another layer of "chewing gum for the mind" and embark on an online jigsaw puzzle from https://thejigsawpuzzles.com/
And with the morn, those angel faces smile...

There's a fascinating website which has given me hours of pleasure.

One night in December (1944).

Somebody bought an old map at auction. It was Lancaster navigator's plot of one particular raid over Munich. He decided to do some research into the circumstances of that particular flight, recruiting some former RAF (modern-day) chums to help him.

The result is a remarkable piece of work, both in written form and in audio podcasts.

This looks and sounds like it is going to be really good, despite the eccentric website structure e.g. the reverse numbering sequence of the podcasts, the missing first podcast (possibly omitted due to technical issues) and the lack of biographical detail of the team who put all the effort into this site (e.g. two of the team were in the RAF, come on chaps. While we understand OPSEC and the official secrets act and all that, not to mention personal privacy, but a little more initial written detail giving the listener some orientation, both personal but also relating to your mission and that Lancaster's crew's mission, would make all of your personal efforts a little more piquant, particularly as you seem to have binned your first podcast)...

Now I shall stop carping and continue listening... :)

I asked a friend, Robin Fullerton, to have a look. Rob is currently a Boeing 737-800 Captain, but in a previous life he flew as a Navigator on the McDonnell Douglas F4 Phantom II (on 74 Sqn, the RAF’s second most prestigious Tiger Squadron) and then as a Route Navigator on the HS/BAe Nimrod.

He also taught the low level syllabus on 6 FTS and spent a tour as an examiner at the RAF Central Flying School.

The website's not about the guys who put it together. It's about the crew and experiences of Lanc LM582 on the night of December 17/18 1944.

I fully agree with your latter point.

A cracking good yarn

In my formative yoof years we lived in the upper New Town of Embra. On one side we had the neighbour Ludo Kennedy. On the other, we had Colonel Mitchell of the Argyll & Sutherlands.

Dinners were often and always fascinating, especially after the post-prandials. Both were brilliant story-tellers and both had a lot of true stories to tell.

Here's Ludo telling the tale of Scharnhorst.

Well worth watching, even if you know the story.

In the spirit of that Lancaster mission from East Kirkby, I offer this video:

My mother in law had a boyfriend who used to visit her in Grimsby. He was a Flt Eng on Halifax when he was killed. Now this didn't really fit with him taking her out in Grimsby. Then, watching the film, the name carved in the pub table, Syd Smith, a Flt Eng after 30 missions. Had he done a tour on Lancasters before converting to Halifax?

He was RCAF.
