It's the taxying that is the hard part

#382 Post by Undried Plum » Mon Dec 27, 2021 1:36 am

Can you imagine doing that taxying at night, at that place, in the rain, for the first time?

Flying is easypeasy. Just follow the equivalent of the yellow brick road. Nuffink to it.

Taxying at night in the rain at a confusing place like KJFK where the Ground confuser issues you with a clearance to taxy onto a closed taxyway, is the stuff of nightmares!

Just think of doing that arrival taxying at night, in heavy rain. Just thinking about that gives me the heebiejeebies.

True, and people, even the best crews, can come unstuck in relatively simple places due to poor signage, a moment's inattention, momentary uncertainty of position and/or controllers who are unsighted or simply not looking out for their ground based charges. Single pilot IFR in the ground based, "I follow roads" sense, particularly in IMC and/or in the dark, requires multi-core wetware processing and oodles of gigahertz available in the blancmange power of the pilot's addled mind!

Red Baron full movie is on YT, runs 2:03:37, I won't link because sometimes when I post links they get disappeared from YT ^#(^

Really well done in my opinion; it's a movie and not a documentary, so somewhat romanticised and some historical inaccuracies, but very watchable. Stirring music.
Just finished watching it; will put it on my dvd request list.
And with the morn, those angel faces smile...

Pull up a bollard to get closer, and take a seat.

Now swing that lamp. Here's a sea story for ye.

In another thread I made a link to a video about a recent crash. Rapidly, that vid had been taken down.

While trying to find it again, I found that the video creator has put up a very interesting, though terribly lengthy, pseudo-documentary expounding his theory on who "DB Cooper" actually was.

There are almost as many theories about DB Cooper as there are about who was involved in the JFK shooting, but this one does seem to have some substance.

Of course we'll never know. The FBI is corporately embarrassed by their clottish bungling of the investigation and so will never withdraw their idiotic 'explanations' for their silly conclusions.

This one found me stroking my chin and nodding at many of his conclusions. He says he's going to make a second part some time in Spring 2022. I hope he answers some or all of my several important questions then.

Meanwhile:

NRK is Norway's equivalent of the BBC.

Equivalent, but not at all the same.

Lord Reith would strangle himself with his own bow-tie if the Beeb broadcast a piece like this:

of the Bristol Freighter... a Kiwi example... (I blame JH for this bout of nostalgia)...

http://www.kiwiaircraftimages.com/b170.html

Lympne (Ferryfield)/Lydd/Le Tocquet anyone? (Lydd was was touted as the new gateway to Europe, within the last 8 years, with pictures showing 737's displayed on the walls of the refurbished "arrivals hall") but there was still little evidence of that plan when I was there last year! The biggest aircraft I have seen take off from the aircraft was a Trislander, some years back).

(a long video but it is well worth the effort)...

Probably one of the funniest lines in any film that’s not Blazing Saddles :D
