No need to panic! Coro Street.
No need to panic! Coro Street.
TV NZ has several months of Coro Street in stock!
Been in data comm since we formed the bits individually with a Morse key.

I gave up watching that years ago, when it went all PC. Hopefully, once the great British public are weaned off this, perhaps we can have some decent prime-time TV.

Has Len Fairclough still got the garage or is it a Kwik-Fit now?

I "think" I can honestly say that I have never watched a complete episode of Coro. tho' of course I've caught the drift when surfing the channels looking for something to watch.

Re: No need to panic! Coro Street.
Dog # 1 used to spring out of her bed from a deep slumber whenever the first ‘strains’ of the ”Street” theme wailed out of the TV speakers.
This was as a result of me regularly deciding it was evening walkies time and leaving SWMBO to enjoy the latest (in those days non-PC) plot line. One practical use for this awful series.
The dog also used to react appropriately when the PM programme ‘music’ fired up as she knew it was dinner prep time.

Coronation Street is the epitome of all that is wrong with UK television, the producers, writers and directors are all pushing the me as well, gender weido story lines, everyone is transgender or a shirt lifter, the story lines are most improbable, BUT, I am addicted to it, I just shut my eyes when the benders are on, the humour is still there and the subtleties of characters are as they have always been. Maureen Lipmen is a guest star and delivers some brilliant lines.

Re: No need to panic! Coro Street.
I have never watched Coronation Street but did watch the very first ever episode of East Enders back in the day and can honestly say I have never watched another. My ex-wife used to love both series. We clearly weren't suited.
Wouldn't mind watching a couple of episodes of Last of the Summer Wine, Dad's Army or Allo Allo...

I'm with you there GG. We are allowed repeats of Dad's Army on a Saturday night on BBC2, and LOTSW is often on the Freeview channels, together with Allo Allo, but you have to hunt for them. Most of the so-called comedy on TV these days is aimed at millennials and people who perform it, (both male and female), seem only to know four-letter words and/or talk about faeces or flatulence. Gone are the days of scriptwriters who had had a proper education.TheGreenGoblin wrote: ↑Mon Mar 23, 2020 11:22 amI have never watched Coronation Street but did watch the very first ever episode of East Enders back in the day and can honestly say I have never watched another. I love Corrie, the various Merkat clips are superb but the breaks between them are too long.

Re: No need to panic! Coro Street.
I was one of the lucky ones that saw the original Comedy Playhouse episode of LotSW. I commented to SM at the time that I hoped it would become a series.TheGreenGoblin wrote: ↑Mon Mar 23, 2020 11:22 amWouldn't mind watching a couple of episodes of Last of the Summer Wine, Dad's Army or Allo Allo...
As with many of these successful TV programs, the original cast is the best.
After Michael Bates left it wasn't the same, and latterly it was suffering from serious series fatigue.

Re: No need to panic! Coro Street.
In the early 70s, I used to frequent an upmarket social establishment in Wilmslow where many of the Coro Street writers and actors were present. I did speak to a couple of the writers from time to time and they 'fessed up to taking the stories from the Manchester Evening News. The actors, I found, needed very little talent. Using their Coro Street names, Albert Tatlock was as miserable as sin, Annie Walker was her usual dictatorial self and Bet Lynch was always looking for any new talent that might be around. Rita Fairclough was pleasant, but very much a 'luvvie'.

When my employers moved me to our Birmingham office, on a house hunting weekend. SM and I found ourselves in a hotel lift with most of the cast of Crossroads.
Not a fun experience.

Whenever I hear Crossroads mentioned, which thankfully is not often, I always think of Benny (the rather slow guy with the beanie hat) and his tenuous connection to the Falklands. I'm sure many on here will be familiar with the story.

Re: No need to panic! Coro Street.
In every place I ever worked there was some twat who loudly declared they have never watched an episode of Coro St which somehow did not preclude them from joining in the discussions of latest happenings.
