Withdrawal symptoms...
I had a dream I was flying last night and was being admonished for flying too low, the mountains were coming out of the fog of my mind and were far too close it is true. I woke feeling discomforted and strangely disturbed and realized it is now 55 days since I last flew anything, not even a paper aeroplane!
Funny how the mind mangles truth and recent and long forgotten reality. I had been talking about watching some of the theatre Ghibli aviation related stuff being shown on Netflix at this time, before I went to bed last night.
I know we are only, in the UK, at least, days into this "lock down". What you are you missing?
I am going to watch some of Hayao Miyazki's stuff today.

Amazing animation. I could watch them for a long while. Perhaps surprisingly, despite many years of committing aviation, I am not aware of ever dreaming about it.
We'll see about tonight!

Will pilots have to undergo simulator sessions before operating for real?

BOAC, I certainly used to. The dream used to be reruns of a recent training sortie but I only had a few hundred hours then. One was a particularly nightmare, bombing Newcastle as it happens.
A year or so later, after a n interesting incident at Aberdeen I had no such nightmares

The Ancient Mariner
PS I too had some "interesting" experiences in Aberdeen when I was a student, but none of them involved flying.

Re: Withdrawal symptoms...
OK, we were doing flight trials with a test model of our latest H-bomb. This involved making a number of simulated attacks and, as briefed, we opened the bomb doors. Now the attack was supposed to be fully automatic but the computer was down. Following SOP I pressed the bomb release button and as advertised the firing pulse activated the carrier release unit and . . .
For the trial the explosive release cartridges had not been fitted and the safety pin in the carrier had not been removed.
Half a ton of bomb was now suspended on a standard lip pin. The bomb on pin lamp was glowing red but we had never been briefed on what it meant. I learnt about that and how to live with the bomb.

You were closer to the mark than you realized there Rossian (aka TAM), having read PN's hair raising tale...

Here is a lovely little dream fantasy piece with some charming flying content. I like it because it destroys all logic. I especially enjoy the fate of the dragon.

Thanks, boing - another discovery. I like that music.

I thought I was the only one here with such eclectic musical tastes. This is inspiration for our depressing time - try it.
