Something uplifting for a change

#1 Post by rgbrock1 » Thu Nov 05, 2015 8:19 pm

In the midst of all the ***** that goes on around us everyday, I thought it would be nice to share something a bit, shall we say, uplifting. Something that shows that maybe for just a few moments, not all is lost on humanity.

Yep. In the modern world of bad shock journalism, it's a fresh breeze.

And local people rally together to rescue a dog belonging to a homeless man:

DETERMINED locals refusing to give up when the experts abandoned their bid to rescue homeless man’s dog have been rewarded, digging the pooch out of a wombat burrow last night.

MORE than $70,000 had been spent on manpower and machinery as rescuers worked around the clock for three days to try to bring the 42kg bulldog Brooklyn back to his owner Charlie Griffith, who was living in a tent at a nearby oval.

After officials abandoned their efforts last night locals flocked to the scene and pledged to keep digging through the night.

Their efforts were rewarded when Brooklyn was pulled from the burrow about 10.30pm. The dog was taken to a vet clinic to be assessed and reportedly Brooklyn left with a wagging tail after being checked out.

And another dog rescue story, this time a Staffie that was rescued from the pound a year ago leads rescuers to her 82 year-old owner:

An English Staffy named Kiara has been hailed a hero after she led rescuers to an 84-year-old man lost at Colo in Sydney's north-west.

Bruised and battered, 84-year-old Manfred Classen knows it was Kiara who saved him after four days lost in the bush.

Mr Classen went for a walk on Wednesday but became disorientated. His wife suffers from dementia and failed to raise the alarm.

Mr Classen's son released on Thursday his dad had gone missing. His only hope for his frail, elderly father was that his beloved dog was by his side.

Yesterday a police search was launched with SES crews scouring the ground as POLAIR searched from the sky.

The thick canopy of trees and scrub made the search difficult until Kiara came charging through to alert search crews.

Kiara led searchers for 90 minutes through thick bush up and down two mountains before they found Mr Classen.

The 84-year-old was clinging to trees halfway up a rocky ledge covered in scratches and bruises.

"I just hugged him and I couldn't believe it," Mr Classen's son Lovell said.

"He's definitely smashed his nose on something and had blood all over his face and scratches all over his body. He was barefoot in a t-shirt."

After four days without food or water, and no shelter from the rain, Mr Classen is disorientated by recovering well at Westmead Hospital.

"The dog was just absolutely wonderful," Inspector Jackie Smith said.

"It's a first in my career, I've never seen anything like that before so a great story."

Lovell had saved Kiara from the pound a year ago, but never expected she would return the favour to her new owner.
