Macron is in town and the Red Arrows and La Patrouille de France will be flying together over London.
Wouldn't it be great if these guys could refile their flight plan to make a pass over Dover in celebration of Dame Vera's life...

I guess they will be passing over Berkeley square though...

It would be nice to erect a large and imposing statue of her in a prominent place in the centre of London.
See how long it lasts.

A rather fine portrait of Dame Vera by Artist Dan Llywelyn Hall was unveiled this year.

Llywelyn Hall, from Cardiff, said: “Dame Vera’s music has epitomised the human spirit in times of strife and is still at work as the nation’s morale-boosting sweetheart.

“She communicates longing of the soul in times of estrangement and is our herald of optimism during dark times of our nation.”

The portrait has been placed for auction on eBay to raise funds for the charity, with people also able to buy limited edition prints.

Dame Vera, the original Forces’ Sweetheart, became known for her morale-boosting visits to the front line during the Second World War.

Her most famous hit, We’ll Meet Again, will be sung by the nation just after 9pm on Friday.

She recently released a duet of the song with Katherine Jenkins to raise money for NHS Charities Together.

Has anybody, ever, seen any bluebirds over the white cliffs of Dover?

BLUEBIRD is an old country name for swallows and house martins, which have a blue sheen to their plumage.

I've never heard that one before!

A bluebird is a blue thrush in North America. Nothing like a house martin or a swift or a swallow, any which may be blue birds but are nothing like bluebirds.

To my ear, it sounds like she's singing "blue birds over ...", but the lyricist defintely wrote "bluebirds".

Justin Hayward in Voices In The Sky is definitely singing "Bluebird flying high", not blue bird. Quiet unmistakable.

Over such arguments have friends fallen out, duels been fought, mighty houses brought to wrack and ruin and wars won and lost... :p

In N. Yorkshire, 'bluebird' was a generic term for swallows and swifts.

That sounds reasonable. I am apt to listen to ian16th, as the voice of the reasonable (Yorkshire?) man.

The song writer was an American so he may have just placed bluebirds over Kent because he didn't know better and, whatever the case, I am glad he did.

"We'll Meet Again" is the signature sign-off for my favorite local musical group.
I now have my earworm for at least today.

My Dad was an RAF aircraftman (techie/engineer) in ZA, India and Burma in WWII, and was aware of rationing &c., of course. He used to sing "Whale meat again, ....."

Nice to hear her words, too, instead of the present screaming, shouting, twerking, guitar strangling lot.

Remember her well when I was growing up. RIP

Thanks to this thread it has solved my curiosity as to why she was always singing the Icelandic ‘grace before meals’....... ~X(
