Re: Staggering Out Over The Abyss
A bakkie is what is known elsewhere as a pickup or a 'ute'. Typically 2/3 seats in the front and an open platform behind into which 10 people might fit, albeit illegally and uncomfortably.
This type of sight is all too common and as the vehicle is physically overloaded and inherently unstable and unsafe, those poor people simply become statistics waiting to be recorded. This photo was taken on the N1 (motorway) approaching CPT.

The carrying capacity of the vehicles amounted to fewer than the number of deceased.
11 killed in Polokwane crash
2019-09-22 13:44
Eleven people have been killed in a car crash outside Polokwane in Limpopo.
According to Seabi Joel, spokesperson for transport MEC Dickson Masemola, the accident took place just after 06:00 on Sunday.
Two vehicles, a bakkie and an SUV, were involved in a head-on collision, he said.
It is unclear what caused the accident, Joel said.
He added that it remains unclear whether there were any pedestrians involved, citing that the carrying capacity of the vehicles amounted to fewer than the number of deceased.
Investigations are currently under way and authorities are in the process of identifying the bodies, Joel said.
"The MEC was on the scene this morning and has extended his condolences to the families of the deceased," he said.

Jacob Zuma is in hospital with some sort of virus.
Our thoughts go out to the virus and its family.

He’s changed his tune
Several international banks enabled corruption in South Africa under former President Jacob Zuma, British lawmaker Peter Hain has said.
At an inquiry hearing, he said HSBC, Standard Chartered and India's Bank of Baroda were "directly culpable".
The inquiry is investigating claims of graft against Mr Zuma and the Gupta family. They deny any wrongdoing.
HSBC said it supported the inquiry while Standard Chartered said there was no evidence linking it to the Guptas.
No-one from the Bank of Baroda was immediately available for comment.
When all else fails, read the instructions.

Didn’t BA misplace a 747 APU from stores a few years ago

Misplacing is one thing, theft is another.
Has anyone noticed what is wrong with the cartoon above?
The two men should have thicker lips.

Misplace was a euphemism for stolen
Anyway, here’s a story not involving the British Royals

Ex-South Africa minister charged with corruption
A former South African state security minister has appeared in court on allegations of corruption.
Bongani Bongo - who was seen as close to former President Jacob Zuma - is accused of offering money to a lawyer giving evidence at a parliamentary inquiry into corruption at the state power company, Eskom in 2017.
Mr Bongo did not enter a plea. He was released on bail and is due back in court in January.
Mr Zuma appointed him state security minister two weeks after the alleged bribery took place.
He lasted only four months in the job.

Re: Staggering Out Over The Abyss
That is a long time in SA politics.
We had a Finance Minister who only lasted the weekend!

Re: Staggering Out Over The Abyss
It's a little bit worse than that.
We actually had three finance ministers in four days. Needless to say the WIG (wog-in-charge) was Zuma. The shortest reigning incumbent was called David van Rooyen, which gave some hope that he might have been a white man, but it turned that he was strongly non-reflective with all the matching characteristics.
Sad, farcical, but true.

How many working days was van Rooyen in office?

You mean he did any work? More likely went and sat in a chair, picked his nose, and pissed off with a fat handout of taxpayers' money.

You are being facetious, you know very well what I mean.
To quote Wiki, with my additions in brackets:
Van Rooyen was appointed the Minister of Finance by President Jacob Zuma on 9 December 2015 (A Wednesday) after the removal of Nhlanhla Nene from the position. Van Rooyen was sworn in the next day, beginning his time in office. The markets reacted extremely negatively to his appointment as the South African rand dropped as much as 5.4 percent against the dollar in a single day. President Jacob Zuma reversed his decision late on 13 December 2015 (A Sunday)

I wasn't being facetious Ian, I was trying to be funny. Sorry if it came across differently and I was not having a dig at you.

Gotta admire the way they treat evidence in SA courts.
Lawyer shot dead in freak court accident by gun tagged as evidence.

Funny innit? The Nationalist government handed over a well functioning and benign dictatorship, with agricultural and state enterprises which were some of the best in the world, a sound economy, and a strong currency.
It has taken the ANC 25 years to turn most of it to *****. That's what happens when you give democracy to the uneducated.
