The Game of 'Flog'

#1 Post by EA01 » Mon Jul 13, 2020 10:43 am

I am of the understanding that Alison is a regular player of the 'Royal & Ancient' game,....Jnr Fliegs is a recent convert / addict. I hadn't played in a few years, and whilst I have played over many years, never seriously, and never well.

But of course when he now invites me along for a round I can't get my clubs out of the shed fast enough! (I also can't evaluate every hole as a potential forced landing site!)

Funny old game isn't it? ....I think I've known for years not to belt the skin off the ball...but only now start to understand a steady swing, letting the club do the work is a better option....but then it comes back,....hit that ball 1/2 a k!!

What is this flogging game all about and does it involve Ms. Whiplash? ;)))

Best time to play. One course I played regularly you wouldn't hit off until you got a cooee from the group in front to say they were clear. Thick mist. Unfortunately haven't been able to play for the last six months due to deteriorating health. Look at tons of kit in garage and have convinced myself I will get to use it again. :)

Once selected a par 5 (at a well known posh golf club that had been home to the British Open) for an outlanding.

Landing successful and I was polite and taxied off the fairway into the semi rough.

Bastards charged me green fees!

Well, up in the dark, cold shower just to reinforce winters chill, dress warm, coffee and out to the course with my Son.

Closed, due water from the torrential rain on the weekend....didn't even occur to me

Off to another nearby course.... same.

Might call ahead to a hinterland course and see if they are open....our nearby ones are on the floodplain

Headed out to a course I used to play in the early / mid eighties this afternoon. "Tally Valley"

https://www.tallyvalleygolfcourse.com.au/

Delightful course. I can remember playing there with my Father so many years ago...we used to go out to the Aviation museum that was there...the hanger still stands, but is for indoor cricket now I think...

Our casual 9 morphed into a full 18, and a thoroughly enjoyable 4 & 1/2 hours followed. (And I won...by 9 stokes...)
