Capetonian.

Just heard from Cape's son he is in a critical state. Those who believe should say a prayer for him.

Oh I am so sorry to hear this. I was was going to ring him to see where has was at. Last news was very positive. I am an agnostic but will definitely pray for him.

My thoughts are with him and C & M.

Last WhatsApp from him was on the 16th and his usual acerbic humour was to the fore following on from the very positive news the previous week. I am really shocked at this bad news

He's kept quiet about his health and I'll respect that while he's still with us. He is in a coma: family present.

I post his last, irreverent and, as usual, totally politically incorrect WhatsApp to me. I expect and hope to receive many more such from him and have the opportunity to row and laugh again with him over a good bottle of South African wine...

His son has let me know that he and his mom are at his bedside... I am raising a glass to them all...
