Re: The Capetonian WOE Thread
Well that took some finding as I initially went to all the places that I know FD2 has lived to no avail. I didn't know you'd lived near Rochester Castle in Kent!

Re: The Capetonian WOE Thread
The apparent randomness of the window shapes suggested a 'sand castle' (and therefore not located in the developed Western world).
Re: The Capetonian WOE Thread
Yes we lived in Rochester when I was about 3 or 4 but only for a few months. Apparently I had double pneumonia which was sorted by a large, painful injection of penicillin.
Well done for tracking that one down C16 - you have control.
Finding a suitable picture reminded me of one of Johnny Depp's more interesting roles as John Wilmot the 2nd Earl of Rochester in 'The Libertine' - not for the faint hearted!

Re: The Capetonian WOE Thread
Thanks FD2 - remember our 'friend' the Earl of Rochester on TOP? This challenge is still a long way from fliegs I'm afraid but if I get another shot my next one is closer to him. I could say this one will be a bastard to find but it's not that difficult......

Re: The Capetonian WOE Thread
Yes indeed - it's Blandford Forum. After the devastating fire of 1731 the Bastard brothers completed the rebuilding of the town in 1760 – a feat commemorated by a memorial in the form of a portico to the church, known as the Fire Monument. This was designed and paid for by John Bastard, who had it engraved, somewhat immodestly, with the inscription "in grateful Acknowledgement of the Divine Mercy, that has raised this Town, like a phoenix from its ashes, to its present beautiful and flourishing State." However, the monument also has a more practical use, built above a piped spring: should a fire break out again it would supply a head of water for the attachment of fire hoses. The monument was converted into a drinking fountain in 1899.
