No, wrong continent. This place has a mild temperate climate with four distinct seasons.

Well that certainly took some trawling and searching C16! Looking at CWGC memorials around the world I finally found a likely one in the land of Oz - the impressive Hobart Cenotaph on Anzac Parade.

OH if correct - I have nothing prepared.

Was this friendly local chap the clue?

That’s it FD2 - and yes, the clue was the Tasmanian Devil. An impressive Cenotaph, I walked around it when we called in to Hobart in RFA Tidespring in Dec 65.

OH declared.

Each spring there is a ten day cherry blossom festival. The sheltered harbour is almost completely surrounded by pine clad hills. Their is also a festival to celebrate a famous naval victory.

Yes indeed C16 - Jinhae, sometimes spelt 'Chinhae' - a large ROK naval base and also the only USN base in South Korea. The conglomeration of three cities is named Jinhae Gu. You have control.

Careful what you order in the local restaurants - it might be a cousin of 'Woofy', your best friend back home.

Admiral Yi Sun-sin is the great local hero having fought the invading Japanese tooth and nail in the 16th Century - an animosity between the countries which continued through to the 20th Century.

The place was awash with brass ornaments of all kinds still in 1973 when we had a port visit, due to the huge amount of brass shell cases left over from the Korean War. One plaque I bought commemorates the famous 'turtle' ships used by the Koreans c16th Century.
