Correct.
The environment around the building should help you narrow it down.

The scenery looks like it could be in Finland but I will go for Scotland.

F3 says not too far from him (#4083) but one struggles to find an expensive hotel around there.

It is Newfoundland T15, and the water in the scene is the Atlantic.

Could it be Craggy Fogo Island, where I understand there is a very expensive hotel, as you mention?Fox3WheresMyBanana wrote: ↑Thu May 18, 2023 11:58 amIt is Newfoundland T15, and the water in the scene is the Atlantic.

Re: The Capetonian WOE Thread
OK, so here's one. It won't last very long, I suspect, but having identified the location, does anyone know about the building's history?

And indeed the reason why the Titanic was registered in Liverpool, although it never visited the city
10/10 Woody - over to you.
(As a slight aside, they had planned to call it the Titanic Hotel, but once they started working on the 100-year-old + building, it was realised that more work (= time and cost) would be required. They continued at a reduced pace, but in the meantime, another hotel group bought a former tobacco warehouse a bit further down the road, and its transition into a hotel was much more rapid, so they were able to use the name before the renovation of the White Star building was completed).

Only searched the UK for thatch fire pub. Amazing how many there are but can't find this one.

Re: The Capetonian WOE Thread
UK is correct - East Anglia to narrow it down. Circa 300yr heritage gone in just over an hour. Unlikely even an ersatz replacement will appear - despite Grade II listing, once it's gone, it's gone. The chain owners have already sold the site and moved on - doubtless a couple or three of executive 5 bed rabbit hutches will spring tastefully on the cleared site......

The Chequers at Pampisford, near Duxford? That pub was apparently demolished within a week, site sold and rubble left, so fits the clues. Locals not amused...
