It was a military HQ in WWII.

Not much action here. Now a university building.

That last clue clinched it! I knew it was familiar but couldn't place it. Was there for a family graduation about 30 years ago - the University of York.

EDIT: Heslington Hall - HQ No.4 Group RAF during WW2.

C16 has it thank goodness I was getting concerned.
The Hall was built in 1598 for Sir Thomas Eynns. With modifcations made in Victorian times and also in the 20th century, it was vacated in WW2 by the family of Baron Deramore and became the Headquarters of RAF No 4 Group Bomber Command. After the war it remained unoccupied until the mid-1960s when it became the Administrative Building for the newly opened York University.

A wall plaque measuring approximately 50 cms x 30 cms on a stairwell to the right side of the main Reception area pays tribute to the personnel of the Group who made the supreme sacrifice in the air and on the ground during WW2.

C16 in Command.

This is a depiction of a certain FS Trueman in Skipton.

I have his autograph somewhere obtained when he was a guest speaker at a dinner sometime in the dim and distant past.

Yes, Freddie Trueman. Must have been in 1961 I sat near where he was fielding on the boundary in Dean Park, Bournemouth when Hampshire played Yorkshire. Things were quiet and my mate and I had a long chat with him. Also noted for his catchphrase "Ah'll sithee" and being named Pipe Smoker of the Year.
Over to you Smeagol..

Saw him play for Yorkshire 2nds, at Redcar.
Must have been against Co. Durham of Northumberland, these were the only Minor County games we hosted.
Must also have been before 1952 when I became B/E Ian16th.

He started his run up at the sight screen!

Thank you C16.
I will continue with the same theme of public statuary. Where is this one?
(No prizes for guessing who the one in the yellow jacket is. It's Mrs Smeagol!)

Depends on one's definition of 'new'. Been there since 2007.

I can only find one similar 'hurricane on a stick' and that is the Sir Sydney Camm memorial in Windsor.
