My 'Newark Tunnel' turns out to be a bridge - ho hum. This is the entrance to the Holland Tunnel in Soho, Lower Manhattan.

We used to go through a tunnel when we went from JFK to the Bershire Hotel in VC10/DC10 days.

Not sure of the name, but it may have been the mid town tunnel.

It were many years ago.

Came out near the 50s streets.

You have it, opened 95 years ago today.
The hardest bit was the ventilation system - cars produced a lot more carbon monoxide in those days.
You have control

Thank you. Here's a statue of a horse and rider. Where is it, apart from on a plinth?

A clue: Both had particularly long noses but the rider's was remarked upon in 'society' at the time.

The right man but further north than that. Don't be fooled by the cleaned up buildings!

Final clue: anyone who has any family history in Scotland will find their records in the building behind.

It's in Edinburgh, it's on Princes Street and the record building is called the National Records of Scotland.

My (late) father and his ancestors are, possibly, registered there.

If I haven't put one up first, someone else feel free to put one up.

Yes talmacapt, it's Edinburgh, at the top of Princes Street, opposite what's now known as The Balmoral Hotel. Wellington's Statue sits on the pavement outside General Register House.

As the grime of many years soot and dirt from the chimneys of Auld Reekie is cleaned from the Georgian buildings we can appreciate them better.

OH declared.

We can appreciate them better than in Georgian times, as although there was little soot then, the roads, such as they were, were knee deep in horse poop.
