True Woody. Hope he keeps safe. OK let us make it O/H to keep it rolling in the memory of Mike.

I've got my "can't get the pictures to display correctly" problem with the ipad.

Will use the desktop tomorrow and post then, it is dinner time, in Finland.

This city (size of an English town) was rocketed and bombed by the British, in conjunction with the French, some years ago.
Where am I and why did they attack it?

The description of the event fits with the Battle of Bomarsund in 154 when the fortress was bombarded and eventually destroyed and dismantled by an Anglo-French force. However there appears to be no significant town near the site. The nearest town is Mariehamn, the capital of the region, but I cannot find anything similar to your pictures.

You meant 1854 and that is the correct time period.

The war was about a product which had a purpose in that time but is used for a different purpose now.

The date of the shelling was 25july 1855, if I remember correctly.

This is mainland Finland not the Åland isles.

To move it up the page, a couple of clues.

Rolls Royce (marine) has a "thruster" facility in this city.

The railway goes there, for freight only.

I cannot think of any other clues except that an aunt of my wife lives there.

Pictures, similar to mine, are on the net.

Try this one, it just might be familiar to UK television viewers of a certain series.
