Re: The Capetonian WOE Thread
I assume you all give in.
This is Villa El Recreo in Torrox Costa, rumoured to have been Hitler’s mistress, Eva Braun's holiday villa, given to her as a gift from the Spanish dictator, Franco
Where I stood for this snap used to be the beach line.
There used to be two huge lines of palm trees leading from the entrance gates to the house, but sadly these were cut down maybe five years ago (presumably as they were infested with palm beetles).
The roof of this now unoccupied villa has the most beautiful, iridescent shiny tiles.
The House reopens.

Nothing for two days. OK an old photo but it is still there as far as I am aware. Just checked he has been moved but not far.

Is it Cecil Rhodes?
If so, he's on top of a plinth

I do think Opsboi is correct, but there may be a tad more info required. The statue was in the centre of Bulawayo for 76 years but was moved to centenary park at the Natural History Museum of Zimbabwe in 1980.

Not France, Ex-A, but the area has links to a part of that country.

Monaco?
Re: The Capetonian WOE Thread
That fooled me because it looked familiar from Culdrose and BAH days. The Google maps photo I had checked this morning for Penzance Harbour did not have a middle jetty so I quickly went East instead of West before going shopping. I'll plump for Newlyn Harbour now.

Re: The Capetonian WOE Thread
Well found FD2, it is indeed Newlyn, taken from a BIH S-63 returning from Scilly quite a few years ago. I almost used the Penzance harbour pic I took on the same flight.
It was the first time I had to pay for a helicopter flight, all the others had been for work to offshore platforms in the North Sea, the Arabian Gulf or to remote locations in the Indonesian jungle.
FD2 has the right hand seat.

Re: The Capetonian WOE Thread
Thanks Smeagol. Here's a photo of some shops.
Re: The Capetonian WOE Thread
Looks similar to one of the arcades in Kowloon - Ocean Terminal maybe - from memory the top two floors were car parks where we put all our ventilation equipment. Spent many weeks there on an asbestos removal project in the late 80's
Re: The Capetonian WOE Thread
Spot on CremeEgg - it's the Ocean Terminal in Kowloon. Opened in March 1966 just 9 months before I pitched up there for a visit c/o the R.N. It was the most modern and luxurious collection of shops that was on offer then but like all these things in Hong Kong was quickly surpassed by ever more expensive places. It was nice for us to catch the Star Ferry over and gawp at stuff we couldn't afford to buy though! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ocean_Terminal,_Hong_Kong
CremeEgg's turn to bat.

Bugger, only just seen this. Been there loads of times.

Re: The Capetonian WOE Thread
So rare for me to get even close. My memory thought it was rather higher but a great place to work watching all the shipping in the harbour - no sign of high vis or anything related to safety. Many days spent watching the approaches to 13 and when the heavens were torn open you knew a CAAC Trident 3 was departing. They even made the Ex-A's old means of transport seem quiet. Great contract that was. Nothing to hand - gout and Covid limiting enthusiasm - so Open House.
