Looks like eastern Europe.

That looks like Alexander the Great and Bucephalus in UP's bailiwick.

Re: The Capetonian WOE Thread
My immediate reaction was the forecourt of the Court of Session, Edinburgh, but the building is too unkempt for that, plus those awful modern windows are not what you see at the Court of Session buildings. I have no wish to revisit the Court of Session - a stressful experience of 35 years ago! I bet it's Edinburgh but don't know where.
EDIT: hadn't seen this page of posts when I planted mine - looks like 4m has it.

Re: The Capetonian WOE Thread
The statue used to stand between the carriageways at the St Andrew Square end of George Street, where the pedestrian crossing is now. It was made in several parts by the Aberdeen sculptor John Steell and finally finished and presented in 1884. Steell is supposed to have had so many problems with payments from the Edinburgh Council that when he cast the horse's head he gave it pig ears, indeed an 1833, 20-inch cast shows the beast with more horse-like ears. Judge for yourselves:
The 17 year old Alexander is supposed to have worked out that the horse was afraid of its own shadow and became the first person to mount it after turning its head to the sun. Whatever the truth it was certainly his favourite steed until his death at the age of 32 in Babylon.
The statue has stood in the courtyard of Edinburgh City Chambers since it was moved from George Street in 1916, so Edinburgh is correct by C16 and 4ma got the subject correct and that it was in Scotland but neither got the exact location so OH is declared!
Edit: C16 has conceded victory so honours go to 4ma - you have control!

Re: The Capetonian WOE Thread
The smaller casting would be easily possible nowadays with modern scaling techniques, but in 1833 it must have required considerable skill.

Thank you.
And now somewhere a bit lot warmer than Edinburgh. Somewhere nice to relax after a day's safari (There you are - a big clue already).

You've got it Smeagol. The crash was featured on one of the Sky channels the other day and that's what gave me the idea of the question. Ndola was also one of the detachment locations following Mr Smith's UDI. All yours sir.

Re: The Capetonian WOE Thread
Not the Indian Ocean area, nor Pakistan or Malaysia (I did say west of India earlier). West of all those.
There is the clue in my #773 above, the form and the wording indicate a certain event in the Christian theology. The building celebrates this.
