Crun Research - Strandbeest

#1 Post by henry crun » Wed Aug 26, 2015 1:55 pm

We have lots of flat sandy beach and a superfluity of wind here at Castle Crun, so it seems logical to get involved in Sandbeest manufacture. For those who may have missed Theo Jansen's creations here is a pic:

The mechanism consists of a series of linkages all connected to a single crankshaft:

We have ordered a small model Strandbeest as a starting point, the manufacturer shows it thus:

Why of course it does, hardly needs any further explanation really Henry!

Feeds on wind, lives on the beach, not sure about the reproduction bit, I guess you just leave a heap of tubes overnight and there's a herd by morning.

Self replicating eh- clever. Just don't let the dam thing mate with a 3D printer ;)

Keep us posted Henry, this is going to be an interesting one.
