thuge, worrage

Two words that I once attempted to use in a Scrabble game but unfortunately do not exist. But they sound like they ought to.
A thuge is a mediaeval Northumbrian nose flute

To worrage is to anxiously gather nuts, plants and berries from privately-owned hedgerows

Obelus.

Definition: the symbol ÷

In addition to serving as the sign indicating division, the obelus is also used to mark a questionable passage of text.

Next time Mrs G-CPTN asks you to do a spot of DIY, try saying "Sorry, pet, the old anhedonia's playing up like a b*stard" and see what happens

Oh, and do report back...

Ostinato - a motif or phrase that persistently repeats in the same musical voice, frequently in the same pitch.

Good example herein...

Though you remain
Convinced
"To be alive
You must have somewhere
To go
Your destination remains
Elusive."

Now there's a coincidence.
I am listening to this (and much appreciating it) while reading that....

What a lovely piece of music John Green and a perfect example of ostinato. :YMAPPLAUSE:

Now looking up Simeon ten Holt! I feel an album purchase is imminent!

TGG, there are two or three other versons played by Jeroen VanVeen and different colleagues and well worth listening to comapre the very different moods of the same piece.
You may also find this very appealing though it is quite different.

I do like these sort of minimalist forms of music and listen to them may times over until they become very good company.
This is rather different and a more robust sound but maybe the fact that Steve Reich grew up in America has something to do with that...

John Green, many thanks for posting the Simeon ten Holt examples. I had hitherto not heard of him, whereas I do know of and like Steve Reich's music very much.

I am delighted to see that as an Amazon Music subscriber I am entitled to two of ten Holt's albums. Listening to his Solo Piano Music right now.

Another one you might like.
The Necks are and Australian trio (piano, bass, drums) who generaly perform live with no preconceived intention to play anything that they have created before. The results are very variable, depending much upon the listeners musical appreciation, but when they are 'good' they really are exceptionally good.
This is the earliest of their released recordings, which maybe would have been better named 'love' as 'opposed to 'sex' but which then might not have had quite the same penetration - so to speak - into the Ozzie music scene.
This track is not available on youtube but I think you can hear enough of it to get the flavour of it here...

I will definitely give The Necks a listen. I am girding my loins for the foray into the nether regions of the Avant-garde Australian musical scene! :) ;)))
